Has anyone done this? |I know it would probably end up being expensive.. if not THE MOST expensive engine swap. Be nice though.. the 3.5 diesel from the current 3 or 5.. hmmmmmmm

Current 3 or 5 would be rediculously expensive and complex, I should think and e36 diesel would make more sense.

Or buy this and stick the engine in your car

only 102 k, these engines last twice as normal, being a beemer you could make it last to around 350k matey ! That's like forever

I would do it, its a 2.5 too...

It's a TD too, unless he has listed it wron, no reason why it shouldn't be turboed as it has come from the neatherlands. I but it could be pepped up a bit, not sure if they have an ecu, but I'm sure the boost could be turned up!

I never actually thought about it but IT IS a good idea. Not going to steal the car now but seen other old beemers with diesel engines and they are very strong.

I have posted the question to the seller and see what he comes up with (the feedback and his circunstances make the sale a bit suspicious)
Hi mate,

In the description you mention that the engine is TDI, can you back it up with more info or post pictures for me please ? I would be very grateful for this info.

Thanks
Jose
Perhaps the picture will show more details... or some resemblance of an ECU of some sort...
Will let you know as soon as I get an answer (if ever)

Don't do it mate - diesel is nasty, smelly, oily polluting stuff - should be banned.
Go for LPG instead - petrol performance, at less than diesel costs.

LPG fitting's been discussed a few times by a few of us on here.
Venturi system is easy to fit - I can advise on what parts you need for a325.
More modern injection systens are a bit more complicated, but still DIYable.
I've got one of these here off ebay to fit to my M50 touring.
Must get on with it, since we've now got a bit of competion here amongst LPG suppliers, which has just led to a 20% reduction in price at the pump.

Resistances I measured off a good blue temp sensor a few years ago:
Cold 3900 ohms
Hot water (from tap) 980 0hms
Very hot water 306 ohms.

For comparison, a faulty one, which was on my 318 mentioned in my MOT post when I bought it cheap four years ago, gave
Cold 7200 ohms
Hot 1960 ohms
Very hot 722 ohms.
This made the car run rough when hot, and difficult to restart hot - and was the reason I got the car cheap.

Will check the blue sensor, thanks for the values.

Well if he says it's a TD as listed then it is the 324 Turbo Diesle rather than the 325 Diesel, I think! Oil burners not my area!

"2.4 TD" is the first BMW diesel conversion which lasted until 1992 and was original equipment in continental E30's. It comes in 2 variants - the TD is the only one worth considering.
The next BMW diesel engine is the one fitted to the E36 and is also in two versions (the better has an intercooler) and is an old style but good diesel engine.
Hope that helps.

Pesumibly it wouldn't be too difficult to fit an intercooler to the old TD and pep it up a bit?

Diesels are'nt as bad as everyone says, less hassle if you ask me, well the older ones anyway, if you've got compression and diesel it will start. Older ones with a pump are a bit noiseier due to lower injection pressure but new CDI's are quieter quicker but a bit less reliable due to the parts that have been adapted from petrol cars, electronic injectors, cam, crank sensors etc. CDI's burn cleaner aswell due to high injection pressure, the Merc vans i work on inject the fuel at 1200bar !!!!!!!! at the most engine load. Diesels good for some reasons, petrol good for others.......
