about 250 miles in my sport. It really does depend on how u drive and where u drive urban/rural etc on the bigger engine chariots

If your in town all the time its a world of pain i a 325i.

if you live where there is little traffic and big roads then you'll get Kermit13 sort of mileage.

Simon....can you photoshop kermit into my M5 if I send you a pic?....

In my mk 1 sport I get about 280 miles on a run to a tank (approx Ԛ£35 squid to fill up), and about 220 round the doors. Not bad for a 2 and half litre. It is running sweet as a nut mind, and could be worse. I even got 290 + miles to a tank in my six series on a run, bigger tank mind, but again, if you get them running properly, they're not bad for big motors.

Around town this week I have had 160 miles on a tank, so approx 12 MPG........ :x Agggggghhhhhhhhhh but I have been thrashing it and drifting and using full throttle at every opportunity. On a run like when i went to Scotland in the summer it can get 380+ on a tank. So it is very dependent on driving style.

On my last to fillups of Ԛ£35 (55ltr tank) I did 250 miles of half and half driving style, then 220 miles which included about 6 or 7 miles caning the fcuk around a race track!

Can I just say, you guys make me feel a lot happier! Just got my first bmw a few weeks ago after having to drive a hideous diesel xantia for a few months (previous car was a Scirocco that died). I was getting 570 miles for 60 quid on the Xantia; I did expect the 325 to be a bit worse than the Scirocco, but was hoping it would be better than 340m for Ԛ£40 (mostly town)... but now I think differently!

I think what all the guys experiences reveal, and a good way for you to look at it, is how big an impact different driving styles and conditions can have on yer economy. and just as importantly perhaps, yer fun! Think of the versatility you've got. You can pootle along the big roads all day in comfort, and get up to 35 mpg from a 2.5! Or you can hoon around having an absolute dream of a time, screwing the proverbials out of it, and still get a reasonable return for your money, maybe still 18 or 20 mpg. I can never believe the economy I get when I visit my family in Berwick on Tweed, as the driving up there is so non-conjested, on really good roads mainly. Sitting in traffic is the biggest problem to economy. My brother can never resist the urge to plant his foot to the floor & kick down, and get that awesome, almost jet like scream, when he drives my car. As up till recently a non BM owner, (I've finally got through to him, and he's bought a facelift 320), he can't believe it, and say's to me if I'm driving, "go on, make the @&%$er howl". Try and be philosophical about it, and the lower end of economy figures won't get you down so much. And have a good time.
All the best

Don't no how many litres my tank holds [will have a look the manual], its an 89 Auto 325 Motorsport cab and it costs me Ԛ£50 to fill it up - I then get about 260-270 miles of town driving out of that. My fuel light came on for the first time this week too!!!

Seems to be some funny numbers here though. no_whippets get 340 miles for Ԛ£40...that right? Jimbob and jesmond can fill up for Ԛ£35? Am I missing something?

Bug4life

Mine normally takes about 35 quid, but I'm never on empty when I fill up, and the red light has never come on, so I reckon there is a few quid in there when I fill up. I assume mine is a 55 litre tank, although I see one of the peeps has mentioned 45 litres. Mine is an '87 mk 1 sport.

Mine is a 55ltr tank (as the car used to be a 4pot!) all 6pots have a 62 (or 63? cant remember) litre tank, hence the difference. I put Ԛ£35 in as it's a nice round figure, not because it's full :)

I belive that all E30's, except tourers, had the smaller (55ltr) tank until the face lift, then all of the 6 pots got the larger tank. My pre face lift 320i had the smaller 55ltr tank.

My E30 325i gets 250 miles to Ԛ£45.00 - lots of small trips here on the Isle of Man

Our 7 seater 4 Ltr V8 discovery takes Ԛ£85.00 of juice and we get.. 220 miles around town  But we only did 4000 miles last year..even so it's a green pump junkie

How do I test the blue temp switch? I know where it is etc, just need the guru to tell me what ohms it should read when the engine is hot, If I remember rightly the resistance should drop to zero when hot.
Any way any one know for sure

Well over 400 miles to Ԛ£40 of fuel on my 325 touring, driven as hard as you like.
But it runs on LPG.
