Im on a weight saving mission to try and compensate for it being underpowered and yesterday i removed all the headshields around the exhaust. But Now i realise i removed one which was between the exhaust and the petrol tank. Is there a danger here of the petrol getting too hot when the tank is low?

Dont want to put it back on as it bolts to the other one so would have to put them all on again. I would just put heat wrap around the exhaust but its the weekend so I dont know where I could get any

Please advise, ive got a very long journey to make tomorrow :?

Take (literally) dozens off road and race cars and never had an issue. Doubtful that a bit of extra heat would generate a lot of extra danger of a fuel tank going pop, but then again I'm not a scientist

Exactly how much weight have you saved? From the lowest point of the car..

Heating up the petrol tank will effectively reduce engine power

Yeah I know what your saying but overall add up all the little things and ive removed alot of weight. Also im not expecting it to drive any different on the road but its a 318i im learning to drift in, and as i cant afford to make it faster i was hoping removing as much as I can will have a similar effect and cost me nothing. In the end I cut the front heatshield up and bolted part of it back on so I had something to bolt the middle heatshield back on to, so all sorted now.
