Any sounds coming from the front driverside speaker in the footwell??
Is all the C/L not working, or only some?

Undo the screws to the driverside footwell speaker, 2 iirc,
take the speaker out,
and underneath it in the footwell is the C/L relay, there's 2 bolts that need to be undone to release the bracket for the Relay.
Check to see if there is any water in the footwell too, as this is noramlly the most common problem.

If the relay is gone due to water damage, you'll nee to clean out the inside the footwell and unblock the drains.

if not then you need to do the black/red wire mod sounds like your problem is the same as what i had
you do it while the speaker is out on the drivers side
cut the 2 black wires with the red stipe on the back of the plug going through the pillar into the drivers door and join them together

Petrolcap lock is easily accessable from the boot, if you can open that.
The lock is ocated behind the carpet, you'll see a hole in the carpet, through that you can slide the lock to open the cap.

They shouldn't have touched it if they knew what they were doing.
Sounds like they have messed up the misture on the AFM.
You need to take it to an MOT station and have it reset, by having the H/C set via machine.
