Bits needed for an m50b28 build

I have a mint m52 in the shed which I have been hoarding ready to build a steel blocked 2.8. Need the space so I'm going to strip it and put the parts I need into storage or sell them.

So what do I need? Crank, rods and pistons? Anything else?

In case anyone is interested, the head will be for sale. Only 35k on it

Why not just fit the engine?

Because it's eventually going to get boosted so would rather have the security of an iron block. Plus used for motorsport. Don't want a popped rad mean a new block.

I'm probably more worried about using the ali one than I should be. But I am concerned about something stupid like stripping a thread if the head comes off a couple times. As I say, main concern is boost

as a matter of fact I'm just thinking the same... I had a M52B28 from e39 528i but I sold it to a person who has a 528i and his mechanic "broke" one of the camshafts don't know why or for what reason ... so.. he wanted to replace the engine and I'm waiting some time to call to that person that achieves the replaced engine so I'll use his crack,rods and pistons to stroke my M50... I'll turbo it someday and the iron block is much better for that

ive seen a vortek supercharger kit that will run on an m52 @6psi and on a completely stock 52 return about 275bhp............ couple that with other trinkets and im sure 300 could be cracked. thats enough for me i reckon

by the way, if it did blow my engine id pick up another for 300-350 and then thinkl about putting in an iron block

Thing is, buy that kit, engine management etc etc you are going to be £5k + (I'm guessing). For that money you could comfortably build a a 500hp turbo lump.

I also don't like the idea of superchargers. They are an inefficient way of making power

Dan, didn't you build a steel blocked 2.8 for your chromie? Just browsed your thread, noticed you skimmed the block, guessing this was to raise compression to a suitable/highish level for N/A. You don't know what the comp was before the skim do you?

10.3 I think is the standard 2.8 comp

I would just leave it as is, why strip a good engine?
