My BMW dealer are out of stock and need to order it. In the mean time will disconecting the ABS fuse stop this horrid sensation? If so which fuse is it?

Well it seems I have broken my ABS sensor on the drivers side caliper, when I brake it seems fine until the last 5mph when the pedal does a little judder and makes a funny noise.

If a ABS sensor is broken, the ABS system will not work.
The ABS system does not work below 15-20 Mph.
It could be caused by baked on brake pad material on the disk.

It started after I took the caliper off. I've had in bits twice since and can't find anything wrong?? It definately feels like the abs is doing funny things??
I did pull the abs sensor cable quite hard by accident, that's why I'm trying to blame it on that.
Just as I come to a standstill the pedal drops away from my foot for a fraction of a second, then comes back onto my foot and pulses rapidly until the car stops. This is also coupled with a bit of a graunching sound???
The pads and discs seem 100% any ideas?

If you want to test to see if it is the ABS pump, (as i had a similiar prob with my ABS) remove the plastic cover of the ABS pump and remove the relays, this should also make the ABS warning light on the dash stay on while driving. The braking system will work as normall.

Dose the ABS warning light come on when driving?
As this would show a problem with the sensor.

No, I don't get the warning light come on! I seem to remember there was some insulation tape round the sensor wire, maybe there was a problem there before??
Surely if I do as you say and remove the relays - if it still happens it's not an ABS issue and if it stops then it is an ABS issue?

mine had exactly the syptoms described above but the ABS light never came on... that said, the ABS light doesn't ever light up so it's probably been removed!
the good bit (for me) is that i cleaned up all the senors and a few months later, the problem went away!

My problem with the ABS was this, The bonehead who had the car before me allowed the front N/S ABS sensor to get cut by the bigger wheels, fitted a non-ABS wheel bearing on the front O/S, dissocnected the rear ABS sensors and removed the light for the warning on the dash.
So you can see the fun i had, i had the ABS system in pieces at on point, all works fine now.
Fisrt, do you get the ABS light come on when you switch the ignigtion on with out starting the engine ?
EDIT: with the relays removed from the pump, the pump will not work, so if it still does the pulsating with the relays out, its not the ABS.

I'll check when I get home, but I don't think it does.

This sounds like a faulty abs sensor or possibly just a dirty sensor. The sensor is magnetic and attracts all kinds of crap which can make the abs behave in this way. If the sensor is clean then put a multi meter across the two terminals in the plug. A healthy sensor should give 1 ohm resistance.

Thanks for your help peep's. Disconected the ABS sensor on the drivers side and the breaks felt fine. So I have now fitted a new one and all seems sorted!
