Great way to start a project, looks like you've got a good space to work in too.

I'm putting together my wish list for a suspension up grade..

I've read a lot of threads of people using lemforder bushes and their control arms, how do these compare to OEM.. or is that what BMW used in the first place?

Definitely going for eccentric control arm bushes too.

Looking forward to seeing this progress..

been awhile so ill just copy from my e30owners thread.
The donor has arrived!god is it rusty looks like it got a brand new wing so ill be keeping that.maplight mirror left in it. full stainless steel scorpion dtm style in the boot. so this saturday it is getting completely stripped. the digger will be a great help getting it sripped
few pics of shell and some morsels

Image[/img]
Image[/img]
Image[/img]
Image[/img]

so we started out on the donor todayfirst off we cut the roof off as theres a great tray in it for sale.took off the top mounts on the front and rear, steering knuckle, removed some parts we need and some i will sell.then we moved the digger in.we would of been lost without it.turned the car on its roof and started removing the suspension.used the digger again to lift it all out
suspension will all be powerwashed down and sprayed a few coats of hammerite anti-rust black paint.all bushes put back in and raised onto the good shell.
some pics hope you enjoy.any questions please ask. thanks

convertible anyone?

the leather on both sides as pictured is ripped, can i bring this into a shoe repairer to get stitched? or is there place any one knows thats good at this stuff?

and my tech 1 gear knob ,its a complete leather thing ,no gap between the knob and gaiter its all the one, real cool

and i cleaned up the rear view map light mirror.steering wheel and gear knob were all either polished with black shoe polish

few more pics...

hi ,
bit of an update. hopefully all the bushes will be bought this week or next week.dtm(eric) on here will hopefully be sandblasting my rear subframe and trailing arms in a few weeks.

BIG QUESTION:

as you can see in the pictures the car is about 2 foot up in the air on a non adjustable dolley.you may know where im going with this.... the question is, How the heck do we get it down once it has the suspension on??
we have three ideas
1.stack up bricks and have two planks the width of the car and lift the front up with the digger and roll it down the planks

2.lift one end with a hoist and the other with a digger a lift it up and down

3. put it on a trailer and bring it to a garage and get them to lift it up with a two post lift.

if any of yous have any suggestions they would be welcome thanks
Image[/img]
Image[/img]

update:
started off today by prepping my silver bonnet for the respray. filled the dents, sanded and sprayed.still need a light skim and it will be done.primed the back also. salvaged mint bonnet insulation from the bad bonnet so will be resticking it onto the silver bonnet. i have salvaged from the 316, calipers, air ducts, discs, bonnet, front+rear 51 mm shocks, license plate surrounds, clear lenses. few pics of today.

won a near mint knee roll for £20 delivered on ebay so that will be coming in the next few days few pics...
Image[/img]
Image[/img]
Image[/img]
Image[/img]
Image[/img]
Image[/img]

my knee roll arrived today just need to find the little panel above the switch that covers the two little holes
Image[/img]

looking through the shed today i found some parts i am going to use.2 brand new bosal exhaust rubbers, thermostat(will that one fit a m20b25?) radiator mount, battery. all the suspension and parts inside the car will be brought home tommorow. on the way home i am bringing the suspension to my local shop to get power washed to get the 22 years of dirt off everything
Image[/img]
Image[/img]

suspension has been brought home and power washed.i got my gt cupline shocks out of my old struts ready to go into my new ones.3.91 lsd the discs in the pictures are grooved but not much meat on them so the ones of the 316i will be useddiff is leaking new seal needed ordered x2 subframe bushes,x4 trailing arm bushes,x2 droplinks,m20b25 engine mounts and bumpstops with dust covers today. all lemforder execpt bumpstops and engine mounts which are febi bilstein crosshairs and meyle hd rear topmounts should arrive also this week

then moved onto the diff with the wire wheel. i taught the gasket was leaking so i ordered a new one from bmw. after wire wheeling the back plate i noticed a crack the whole way accross the top. so now i need a medium back plateanyone got one?

Image[/img]
Image[/img]
Image[/img]

recieved these today from seanmul
Image[/img]

started work on my diff as it has to be welded and i have a new gasket for it. opened it up no bother but the crack is no crack. it has snapped in half but on the brightside there was no obvious damage, metal filings or wear inside the diff on the clogs. today my crosshairs arrived from rav and i test fitted them.just need to buy some matte black heat resistant spray and drill the 3mm holes for the crosshairs themselfs. the lights in the pictures are my practice set. i will be going for a set of hid`s aswel further down the line

Image[/img]
Image[/img]
Image[/img]
Image[/img]

continued work on my suspension today.removed front and rear anti-roll bars.took off the droplinks and arb bushes.wire wheeled the brackets for arb bushes ready for red oxiding.got one strut off as the outer tie rod ball joint is knackered on the other so the thread spins with the nut.vice grips will sort that outtook the shock out of the strut. tried to get the disc off but the little nut is rounded and a wheel bolt is snapped in side.will have to drill them out.put on my new e36/e46 hd meyle top mounts.can feel the difference compared to the ebay ones on it. going to order either febi bilstein or skf front top mounts, which are better? and outer tie rods the spending goes on....

If you are not re-using the discs, just give them a swift blow from behind with a lump hammer, much easier than going at them with a drill!!

Found this pretty neat disc for the grinder which just takes off the top layer of paint which will make it easier for me to orbital sand back or hand sand (its actually quite smooth ) . Decided to get a move on with the shell aswell so i brought up my first bit of suspension for it Pity i only had three bolts for it!! ah sure ill get another one As you may see they are spring loaded on so they can rattle off!...

Excuse the brown pipes and there condition, they are just bodged in until i get proper ones at a later date.

Now to show off how solid this shell is There is the most smallest of rot on the passenger brake pipe bracket but dont you just love your father being a fully qualified welder (Few Scabs here and there but a wire wheel and some epoxy mastic will clear those up. )

As you can see my apron is bent but a concrete block is sorting that out as we speak
