Some track days require a fire extinguisher to be securely mounted inside the vehicle, so I've picked up an OE extinguisher and bracket, parts 1 and 2 here:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=72&fg=95

I looked at my seat frames and saw a couple of holes that looked to be in the right place, but I can't access behind them to insert the nut or bolt?

Is it because I'm missing this bracket number 3?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Matt

(thread hijack)

I was going to ask about extinguishers, I've seen a lot of horror stories about electrical faults and that setting peoples cars alight and they haven't been able to put it out and have had to stand there and watch their car burn...

How many folks on here have them on their daily drives? I'm thinking of getting a 1kg power one. Good idea or just over zealous?

I agree, mine looks different to that too - I think its a case of the diagram not fully reflecting the product, or the product has been updated since the e30 went out of production?

Correct. ETK pics. often do not look anything like the object in reality.
Is this a 20 year old extinguisher you've picked up? If so, I strongly recommend that you find a new extinguisher to fit he bracket.
I found a Lidl one that fits the E30 bracket perfectly, so that stays in the car, and the OE 20 year old one sits on my shelf, waiting for a couple of ebayers to scrap over it in a few years time.

It is an OE part - I was running on the basis that something old is better than nothing (And I'm not convinced something of this size could deal with a serious track-day engine fire anyway!). Got any more details on the Lidl replacement? Did you find it there by pure luck?

No doubt it wouldn't tackle a serious fire, but hopefully it'll tackle a small one before it becomes serious!
Lidl stuff is there when it's there. They turn up on their shelves from time to time -watch their weekly fliers.

I've got the small lidl extinguisher in my E30, it's a tenner and may save your whole car from going up in flames. The OEM ones are just for show IMO, but a tenner is a small investment to help avoid an electrical fire.
