Ice roads along Raspberry Hill by the Funton Brickworks Rainham led to an out of control van skidding across the road and wiping out my E30. Although the speed were not much about 30 mph for both the angle of collision took the ford transit front quater along the side of my E30 from just behind th efront wheel arch ending just after the rear door pillar. The car is a write off. Having only TPFT insurance I have got to get the car towed out. Being a BMW the car would still quite happily drive along but the impact knocked me off the road into a kindof mini ditch. The drivers door wont shut so I shall have to tie it shut with a bit of rope.

The vans insurance would cover for the cost of the car but not the recovery hence I have to do it myself and the loss of pay as I was on my way to work and I can't go to work tomorrow as I have no car. I have to look for a new motor tomorrow its such a pain and an expense I could do without this close to christmas.

His insurance will cover whatever you want it to cover. Reasonable costs such as loss of earnings and recovery are all valid things to claim back. Speak to your insurers and tell them about hte accident and tehy'll sort everyhitng out with the other guy's insurers.

Sorry to hear about your car! :(

I think, and correct me if I'm wrong, even with just TPFT you can claim for your loss of pay? So long as the insurance company know you use your car to travel to and from work!

The car is not driveable. If you look on the rear wheel you can see where the chasis of the transit has caught the rim and buckled it back. When i tried driving it out I think the drive shaft broke or came disconnected.

Sorry to hear that mate - at leat your ok though thats the main thing, if you had been in something more modern and flimsy who knows! E30's are solid bits of kit. Good luck with whatever you buy and for getting expenses claimed.

well i got the pay out 3 years later, but it contributed to the build of a cecotto with s50, which has made way to fund the M335i turbo winkeye winkeye
also spunked a fair bit on a boys holiday, spending over a Ԛ£100 a night in maguluf, and thats hard work as it bloody cheap there.
a mate of a made pulled of a good scam on an insurace company,
got his cousin from abroad who was on holiday to rent the cheapest car the could from a reputable rental company, and drove in to the back of his e36 cabrio, he was bored of the car and wanted top money for it, but nicasil block problems ment he could not sell it, any way hey presto whiplash claim and a full pay out on the car (car was parked on a quiet road at night with no one in it when they drove into it, then sat in it drove it round the corner to a set of traffic lights and called police and ambulance) naughty but hey, they love taking our money but hate paying it out.

It seems my insurance had a legal expenses cover thank godness and a solicitor has been apointed for me to claim on my behalf. Hopefully I will get to claim for loss of earnings and the damage for the car.

As I am not claiming from my own insurance company does this mean that I still have retained my no claims bonus. It would be bollox to loose my 8 years NCB.

it will not affect you, your premium in the slightest. it may take a while to get a settlement you are happy with, but eventually you will get what you are due.

There is a lesson to be learnt here, I'm not trying to get at anyone BTW, if you go for TPFT ALWAYS get Legal Aid or whatever they call it, then when it's some one elses fault you can chase the buggers.

So what you're saying Kos is that me, and mugs like me paying increased premiums, have paid for your mate of a mates cabrio and fake injuries claim. :? Nice to know I'm contributing to the welfare of others I suppose, it makes the insurance hikes so much easier to swallow. I'd hate to think that my money was just being wasted on giving an easier life to somebody who got stuck with a lemon they couldn't sell, odd to think of somebody else p*ssing my money up against the wall. I guess that's another kind of insurance policy - don't worry if you buy a real dog, some other numpties will pick up the bill when its time to offload it. (Not having a go Kos, I know its not your doing and there are dozens of people out there at the same thing, just that I got my insurance renewal last week and still a bit hacked off :-x )

Cheers
Brian

Ok an update.

If you ever have a claim you MUST make sure you get a witness as even if the other guy holds his hands up to the accident their insurance company will still bicker about it and try for a 50/50.

Luckily I did have a witness who although did not see the actual colisions, was there minutes after and witnessed the skid marks, the van reversing from my side of the road. I got paid out for the car but I am still waiting for loss of earnings to be paid.

I now have a rover 600 and you can realy see the build quality in comparisson to the e30 showing through. The electric window mechanism has bent up and no longer works and there are a few niggly little things. The car is comfortable but I hate having to wind my seat back, I much prefer to have a lever. The engine though is a great performer, I will give the japs that. The rover 600 is basicaly a honda accord with a rover badge.

I had to get this car in a hurry. Might be a 5 series next.
