no they are not UK road legal. they just had a yellow light film over them which I had to peel off for the MOT in the UK.

Hi there,

Has the suspension change made a difference?

I bought your old set from you, but its just too harsh! Thinking of going the Gaz route but the road use ones...

major difference chap. proper race coilover set up for the track and done specifically for the car with the S50 up front. not too bad on the road but only to get to the track

progress as polycarb windows are in:

Image

still waiting on discs from Keri to finish it all off.

will get car weighed when all done.

correct 15s. tyres are 205/50/15

loads of clearance. I reckon you could get 310s under those wheels andrew with a slimish caliper 4 pot.

298.5mm discs from WMS are on:

Image

compared to old 280s:

Image

Prob could have gone to 302 or 303mm but the caliper and pad not covering the whole swept area so not worth doing.

should be a lot better with the EBC orange pads all round too.

make me an offer and you can have em ;-)

got the old girl back last night after a while of absence.

was chucking it down on the M20 last night and I did not have any grip until I got to 4th on the cup sport tyres. amusing but a little scary.

have forgotten how lively the car is with less weight and that 300 BHP S50 in it. have been driving the family derv burners around so its a real shock to get in so low and with so much throttle response.

brakes are awesome so big thanks to Keri at WMS for the discs; EBC for the orange pads.
speedo now working
polycarb windows in all round
engine, gearbox and diff oils all changed
Michelin wet tyres bought (190/580/15)

ready for 2012 on track finally

got MOT done yesterday and Tax so all set for track this year.

Dunlop Wets fitted ready for Cadwell:

Image

car put on the scales as well - 2430 lbs with half a tank of fuel = 1104 kgs. really happy with that. balance is around 52% front and 48% rears across the diagnols, its prob about 1080 KGs dry but irrelevant weight in some respects:

Image

could prob get more out if removed heater, got race battery but it work in progress. will see how Cadwell goes and the balance.

had a play around with the canards and took on board on what some people have said. trimmed the top ones down to attach to bumper and closed some of the gaps on the lower one. still more to do:

Image

Image

I think there is some more weight I could get out but the s50 engine from the e36 is heavier than the 325 in other track cars I know.. Then there is the e36 box which is bulkier than the 325.

My car has the big z3m diff in it too. Bigger discs /brakes than your 325.
Plus the oem bodykit which adds weight over yours. It all adds up as we know.

I will prob change to race battery as 10kgs in there I reckon.

Onwards and upwards.

Brilliant day with BMW CC and the organisation was just superb. excellent mix of cars and abilities there and there was not only big off all day and no big egos. very well behaved and very patient too from all cars (including me!)

there was a very quick orange e36 Kumho car from Murketts which I think was last years championship winner. was going very well and sounded awesome.

spent most of the day fiddling with tyre temps and shock stiffness and eventually found a good balance.

the orange pads on the bigger discs were a lot better and more confidence inspiring too. will need to check the wear rates on them but had some bite on way home.

went out in a nice 320 iS club sport and very well balanced. also a Cecotto E30 M3 which was at rockingham too from a fella that lives in Farnahm and had northloop stickers on it. lovely sounded car and very well balanced.

Rain was awful coming down the M11 on way home and not ideal on Cups! you get some funny looks when you are purring along at 60 mph from other cars!

All in all a very well run day, very relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed. looking to doing Snetterton later in year with these guys too.

bit of an update.....

brands tom eve for MSV session. oil n filter change just done.

4 new spiggot rings for the TD wheels as was getting wobble at 70. turns out the centres were 73.1 and not 57.1. woops. all sorted now though and MUCH better!

was not happy with just hub centric spacers for track work so went for these 25mm ones that bolt to the hub with slim bolt heads.

Image

you then put the wheel studs into the hub and wheels on the hubcentric spacer. lot safer and more brake clearance as well as filling arches nicely:

Image

Image

more dietary work going on. Lightweight Odyssey battery coming in at 6KGs:

Image

old one was big in the rear. 40lbs (18KGs) of ballast in the rear/wrong place ;-)

Image

Image

Image

new battery install behind the PX seat (mine is a 320 iS so left hooker):

Image

Image

Image

over and out for now.
