Hi Clive, hope your well :D try these people;

http://www.performanceunlimited.co.uk/

They do cometic mls gaskets, they will more than likley have to get it from the USA but their turn around is reasonable, I waited a week for some piston rings. I'll see if I can work out some compression ratios for you. :thumb: give me some time.

ive heard bad stories about mls on m20s tho ive heard there hard to seal
i take it youve got no precaution measures in place ie welded head ringed block or head other wise id just use a standard head gasket

ive just got a standard headgasket on mine but ive also got a welded head
but having said that there are guys in america that have made over 400 bhp stock bottom end stock head gasket no welded head or ringed block or head and all they use is arp head studs and they seem to cope with it
this one in particular made 475 bhp on a standard engine

Its worth giving anywhere with a cometic account a ring, they should be able to get anything in the catalog.
i know VAC do them but they are in the us so not a great deal of help.

The sealing issue will be down to the surface finish of the block and head, you need some serious finish for a MLS gasket.
However there is no shame in using a liquid sealant to help things along, there are several high temp sealants that will do the job just make sure to use one with a solvent that wont attack the rubberized surface.
That or use something like hylomar blue, apply it to the head and block face and allow it to fully fume off before before inserting the gasket.

Did you get far with those e36 m3 throttles in the end?

VAC best price and have stock on the shelf

most of the guys that work there are English it seems lol !

drill out the brass rivets and coat each layer with a good quality gasket sealer ( Elring Curil T or similar ) the fit each layer , then head then torque her down.

They are just down the road from me, mate of mine has been using the decomp plates in a turbo ecotec v6 for a while with no issues.
Good bunch of guys up there.

back to my engine, i have now got a nice new head (thanks maggspower) and I'm wondering what cam to go for, obviously its going to be supercharged like my currant engine but want to get the most out of it. its a do it once kinda thing winkeye

also, wheres the best place to get it from???

as always all advice is appreciated

the standard cam is pretty good for boost
most after market cams arnt cheap cat cams do a good profile for fi engines
its for turbo but im sure they could alter the grind to suit supercharged

My engine is the m20b28 though. I though they need a better lift cam as the standard can restrict it??

You want lift not overlap for boooost. A more aggressive profile will get the valve off the seat quicker.

I would say without the plugging effect of the extra backpressure a turbo provides your going to be blowing a lot of your mixture down the exhaust if you run a cam with the amounts of overlap na engines use.

i wouldn't go for a 278/288 duration cam like a lot of people do on the 2.8, it will probably mean you end up throwing a lot of power and money out the exhaust.

Without seeing a timing diagram for the cat cams there its hard to say a lot about them, but either of the two sport cams should be ok, both would appear to be quite mild for an m20.

Perhaps a standard 323 cam could be a good bet? They are supposed to be a 260 degree duration and the same otherwise as a b25.

If you need someone to do your tig welding let us know, i have a friend in westbury that would probably be able to sort it for you, he used to do all the welding on the vintage stuff for us.

Well, I've just got off the phone from catcam and they have said the same about the turbo cam. I explained all about the engine and they suggested going for there sport version cam. Exact detail of the profile are being emailed to me today so I think I'll go for it.

Thanks for the offer on the tig welding dude but I think I've found a guy down the road from me. If it falls through I'll give you a shout.
What I do need is some steel injector bosses made up. Know anywhere for that??
