Spoke to a guy yesterday who said to me i bed you wheel is catching on your strut. I cant see that somehow as i've got standard bottletops on it (14") and 51mm struts.
Anyone ever heard of this being the case?

Your wheel will not be catching on your strut, something would have to be very wrong for that to happen and the car would not drive correctly.

What sort of knock is it, and when does it occur?

Its like a continuous knock. Beats per minute ;p increase with speed. seems to get more vicious and louder when baring left. i haven't checked the caliper. But i didn't think the wheel would do it

Wheel bearing? Do you get a grinding noise when turning hard? If the wheel is hitting the strut (very unlikely) it will be leaving a mark, so just whip the wheel off and take a look at the strut surface.

Whilst the wheel is off check the caliper is on tight, and the disc has no issues. Check over the stabiliser bar and steering components, just to see if anything has play in it.

Put the wheel back on, leave the car jacked up, and 'yank' the wheel about a bit by hand - any knocks or strange movement?

Yeah checked the side to side play in the wheel and top and bottom but there's nothing. i put brand new wishbones on both sides about 12 months ago but it's done roughly 60 miles since then. and never had the knock when i drove it from storage to my house. brand new anti roll bar links and tie rods and track rods too all at the same time :/

Sounds like you have covered most parts. Knock is definately front end? Subframe bolted up tightly (long shot)? Steerig coupling UJ still tight? (shouldn't cause a knock though).

I assume your wheel arch liners are not lose and catching the tread on a tyre, that can make quite a loud knock as they bounce on and off.

All checked all ok. not sure if i've 100% checked the wish bone bolts through the sub frame. unless the fucking wheels loose or something haha. it disappears when braking

If it disappears when braking then that is probably your answer! It is probably going to be brake related, just check the calipers over fully and make sure the pads are not shaking etc.
