I've been craving a car to give hell and not worry too much about. Having a week off this week I got trawling the net and came across a metal bumper e30 316. I went to see it tuesday morning. It was frankly the dirtiest car I've ever seen in my life. The interior was disgusting with mud and shit everywhere. The boot was a joke, there appeared to be some jizzed on clothing in the boot and a sponge along with some random scrap. The left pocket was also brimmed with oilmfrom a leak container. However importantly rust wise it seemed in pretty good nick especially for a alpine White car. Oh yeh and no sunroof motorsport shell! A deal was done and it was delivered late Tuesday night to me.

Was it delivered with the jizz monkey clothing still in the boot? :)

This morning I got to work stripping it out completely to find any grot or potential problem areas. It was so disgusting and filthy inside when I went t see it I really couldn't be arsed to check it properly as I didn't want to get my clothes dirty or risk catching an STD. So I donned the protective clothing and got stripping

To be fair the shell is actually in good nick. Attention areas so far are

Both front jacking points, thankfully quite localised and not spreading onto sills
Bit of tidying around loom hole on passenger side bulkhead
Hole on drivers bulkhead near battery tray.
Rear drivers side quarter near lamp has had a knock and needs beating out.

I'm picking engine and box up tomorrow night. Everything mechanical will be mocked up then all out again for tidying the shell and possibly paint. It won't be going to a pro bodyshop, I'll do the welding myself and the paint probably by a mate.

Engine will be about 270bhp and the car should be under a ton I reckon. Rear subframe will be raised, e46 rack been ordered. More shell pics to follow tomorrow once I've removed engine.

Karan never hangs about! I was up helping that day, the sun was out, the car really does smell of vomit and i was rewarded with McDonalds for assisting in the bodgery. A perfect day really.

Did naff all yesterday, today I finalised positions and welded on all bracketry for rad, oil cooler and intercooler.

Engine then came out.

I then removed all steering column and pedal box so I could get to the rust I knew was on the bulkhead battery tray area (the usual place). I ground away roughly and cut just to assess the grot. Thankfully it's localised to that triangular area I've cut out and 2 small cheese areas. This I will repair. I will then extend the lower part of the bulk head upwards with a whole new panel from scratch. I will then mod the pedal box to run straightforwards to the Clio servo and then to a silvia s14 master cylinder. The column will also be lowered. Unfortunately I couldn't get much more done today as the dremel shat itself so I couldn't get to the nifty bits I need to cut on the pedal box to get the clevis to pass through.

Looks good - Move the inner arch outwards if you're making a new panel, the Clio servo will fit easier. I just didnt have the time/couldnt be bothered when I did it on mine so I made it fit with what was already there

Today the difficult job got done!

We attacked the pedal box situation. We ended up moving the pedals 35mm to the left, mocked everything up and made a whole new panel out of 2mm sheet. This has given a perfectly angled activation rod and good clearanecaround the master cylinder also. It was very tricky though. As a result of moving the box left the clutch pedal arm will need reworking as it hits the column and the Nissan top hinged throttle assembly will be used. Have also sourced a nice bucket seat so will be working on driving position and dropping the column down tomorrow.

Hole!

Foxy could you advise which Clio servo has an adjustable Clevis on the pedal side please. Mine was only adjustable on the m/c side.

Cheers

Anyone got any tips on the 'easiest way to prep and rattle can the engine bay and interior and boot?

What's the best way to rub it down? Do I just attack it with wet and dry or is there a quick solution?

Around 400-600 really. Then primer and paint. I rubbed my S14a down with 400, etch primed then painted.

None of the clio servos have an adjustable clevis side. My 182 one was the correct length for stock pedal position, but i guess there is nothing stopping the clevis being cut off and a thread put on the rod, then a clevis wound on with a locking nut to get some adjustability
