Hi guys bottom end went on my ill fated s50 build not sure if I better just buy a e46 m3 and cut my losses . I had engine separated to diagnose fault it will need shells and a piston one is no good not sure how exactly , if I do sell as parts or spares what price can I put on it ? The car is not driving at the moment engine in pieces . Thanks for sensible replies if I get any .

Hard to say, it all depends on how motivated you are to do it? If you want easy simple solution bin it off and I think that about covers it.
Good luck
Good luck
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

Depends if you want an M powered E30 or E46?
How come its an ill fated build? Problems with the car or conversion?

Don't even go there..! M50 exhaust manifolds were the tip of the iceberg..jmc330i wrote:How come its an ill fated build? Problems with the car or conversion?

The guy that did the conversion was a balls up guy put a small radiator no oil cooler and he had not done the best job . Me being non mechanically minded I did not realise till I posted on here asking guys what they thought he was cost cutting and did basics just to fit engine gear box and make the car run . Things that annoys me I wanted the car to be special found a great shell £1500 no rust ! And he balls uped the install ! Not sure if to just buy another 3.0 engine but if I can recoup some cash from this I may think of a e46 and not rebuild I found a man I trust for my next build so just thinking of starting from scratch !

Oh bugger
Sorry to hear that chap.
As it sounds like the shell is a good one, I'd say rebuild the b30 (i do miss mine
) - or S54 it lol

its only money and i im sure i can get it done at the end of the day even if it takes 5 years i miss it , the damn thing was very fast though . i guess as foolish as it sounds i'm throwing all at it it's a rebuild that will have to be . i can't believe i even contemplated getting rid i love my e30 too much.

The same sump thats on your b30,same oil pump/pick up/dipstick. If you do buy another engine it would be wise to check the condition of the shells, and use arp rod bolts or you may end up with another blown engine. I also had a b30 engine failure and went down the s54 route instead of rebuilding the 3.0ltr. It cost me £1000 not inc cost of the engine, when it was still on the engine stand and it was a low milage engine. How much can you get the b30 rebuilt for ? Best bet is to weight up all your options.

I have no idea I have a deal with a man off the zone that I will entrust with my build and I think he is a sound man so I best get a s54 and get the bolts done and get it in the car ! What of cooling system what are you guys using it would be an expensive engine don't want to cook it !

The man from the zone you refer to should know this conversion as he,s done it himself,im sure he will tell you everything you need to know i think he can also supply the engine too. You can use the cooling system you have its prettymuch the same conversion as you have apart from your exhaust manifold.
