I think the following should happen, engine fires up, revs flare and settle at ~1100rpm, once warm it settles to a ~800rpm idle

Am i right or not?

What im getting with my ( 89 325i ) is start, revs flare but then sit at around 700rpm, once warmed they increase about 800/850rpm

AFM has been cleaned and contacts checked
TB has been cleaned, butterfly set etc,
All seals changed ( apart from the inlet manifold )
Blue sensor and stat changed
ECU swapped for a spare

Suspect ICV or ECU?

Cheers
:D

sounds like your icv is not working and the revs are staying at baseline set by your throttle body

My m20b20 holds around 1100 rpm for the first 2-3 mins running, then drops to 7-800rpm once warmed up a bit

deffo sounds like your ICV is not moderating the idle correctly, or it could be that the blue temp switch is indicating that the car is already warmed up?

I'd get another KNOWN GOOD ICV off a zoner-borrow it if you have to and try it, you could be amazed...

Blue sensor got changed for a gen BM one, and i tested the wiring right back to the ECU so i know ( well i think  ) thats fine. Gonna try another ICV and see if it improves things :D

Cheers for the replys :thumb:

When I start mine, it sometimes dies straight away but normally chugs for a bit while it settles and sends smoke signals out the exhaust! lol

Mine starts and idles at 700 or so, with all the warning lights on.

So I give it a blip and all the lights og out and it idles at 900 give or take. And it basically doesnt change unless Ive been on a bit of a mission and when im letting it cool before turning it off it might sometimes idle at 1100.
