Hi we have been having problems with starting my sons m20 2.5 from cold . We have done all the usual checks and put it down to fuel pressure drop . I purchased a fuel pressure gauge and it confirmed it is the injectors not the pressure regulator .
Now the interesting question , I went on realoem and by mistake put in 1993 318i m40 , when I put in 1989 325i m20 it gave me the same part number for the injectors . I have double checked this and got the same result , can anyone please confirm this . Thanks Steve .
Also fpr is a different number as is the injectors for a 2.0 .

You could always send the ones you have in for a refurb? Shouldnt cost you more than +- £60.

316i, 318i and 325i all share the same injectors. 318iS and 320i ones are both different.
As said above, injectors can be refurbed to new spec.

Hi Thanks for the very prompt replies .
We are going to get a set refurbished but A. we wanted to confirm our diagnostics are 100% correct before spending any money as we have a few sets of good m40 injectors and B. we need to keep the car on the road .

Maybe he has a set available for you to purchase? Or search the parts for sale on here? Or post a wanted topic?

Hi again we took the fuel rail and injectors off today and ran them up to pressure and all 6 were weeping 2 very bad . Checked our m40 spares and found one set of bosch and one set of lucas ! . A quick trip to the local scrappy saw us the proud owners of twelve lucas injectors ( 3 sets for m40 ) fuel rail and wiring all for £20.00 . Tested 6 on the fuel rail but off the car and all is good .
On a side note in the wiki it says to clean out injectors with carb / brake cleaner and blow out with an airline , How ? . We got a injector plug fitted to the injector , filled it with cleaner , put the airline to the top and then fired the injector with a 12v dewalt battery so that any crud was blown through .
Anyone see a problem with what we did ? .

You may be able to attempt to sort of clean them, but you won't be able to calibrate them.
The performance of the injectors is fundamental to how an engine runs, so I strongly recommend you have them professionally serviced. The cost will soon be returned in fuel saving.

I totally agree with what you are saying Brianmoooore , , the reason we cleaned them was because of where they came from and didn't want to fit them as found . The bonus is we have two spare sets that we can get serviced without the car being off the road . Thanks again for all your help . Steve .
