hi all
might be buying a 525e in the next couple of days

but the owner is convinced its a 2.5??

how can i check if tis 2.5 or 2.7??

car was an import and logbook also says 2.5 but
its a very clean car and has to be worth checking out #

Does the log book also say "525e"?

Dunno about casting or engine numbers, I would say the only sure fire way is to stick a stick down the bores. Try a bit of wire down the spark plug hole on your's before you go to look at it and mark off - ah you don't have a 2.5 do you?

wow a rare 252e !!!

plant your foot on the load pedal and see where the rev limiter is, i beleive the 325e cuts out around 4.5K

have you got the chassis number?

but owner has checked and it came back as a 525e but says 2.5 again

so im a bit confused

all 525e,s had a 2.7 didnt they??

Does it not say 2.7 on the side of the block casing in raised letters ?
The log book should say 2700 or there abouts.

just hunting for all the tell tale signs before i go

owner doesnt seem to know either way for sure
as car was imported some years ago
and the original docs no longer available

Hi Daz, the 525e eta engine has the block stamped with 27 6E B on the same part of the block as the engine number :

And also on the side of the head between number 4 and 5 cylinder it will have 2.7 ETA cast onto the head like this :
