Hi I'm looking to do a engine swap and was hoping to do the m30, but think it may be a little too complicated for me and was wondering what I will need to change a 1.8 convertible facelift to a 2.5 m20 engine?

Is it fairly simple to do?

do I need a different loom, or just a different ecu?

thanks

Hi, you will need; engine with loom all ancillarys and ECU, gearbox and prop, rad, and clocks coding plug.

This list will get you going, you should then think about the running gear, struts, brakes, and diff among others.

Check out Brian's sticky thread about the c101 plug and pin 20 as well.

As for how difficult it would be, depends on your experience and what kit you have, its all just nuts and bolts and can be done in a weekend with basic workshop equipment.

Ok thanks mate, I'm more concerned about the wiring side, as have ramps and my brothers a mechanic. Are there any problems I may encounter or is it all straightforward? Thanks

The engine wiring loom is self contained, completely separate from the rest of the wiring, should be left attached to the old engine when removing it, and the new engine should be fitted with its loom attached. Be certain to check out my 'wiring warning' sticky thread in this forum, as maggspower as said!
Assuming the car in question is a cab., the running gear, struts and brakes will already be suitable for a 2.5 engine. The front springs will need changing, as they will be too soft for the heavier engine, and the diff. will need changing in the near future for one with a numerically lower ratio, and because it will be a small one that's not really up to the torque of a 2.5 engine
