Hi folks, I need some guidance regarding handbrake adjustment.

I loosened the nuts at the handbrake lever, adjusted the star wheels so the shoes were just shy of touching the inside of the disc then tightened up the lever nuts so the handbrake is fully on at the fifth click on the ratchet.

When i took the car out for a test drive i can hear the shoes just scraping the disk and now i have to really yank on the lever to have any real effect.

If I tighten either end any more the shoes will scrape more and if i loosen anything off the handbrake will not hold.

What am I doing wrong or is something wrong with system?

Your best bet is to take the discs off, remove the shoes, and have a good look at what's happening. Make sure the expanders are working freely, and push/pull the cable ends, with the handbrake end disconnected to make sure they slide freely.
If the handbrake has been run for any length of time with the adjustment being only done at the handbrake lever end, the shoes will have worn out of shape, and need replacing.

worn out of shape makes sense as the scraping is not constant, it is only for a short part of each revolution.
