I'm toying with the idea of fitting some Gaz Coilovers, I think I've got about 20mm clearance from the wheel rim to the standard strut at the moment, so before I pull the trigger am I going to have clearance issues with the Gaz set up.

Cos it's hitting the bump stops at speed and the handling is affected, so coilovers will hopefully cure that.

60mm lower springs, can't remember which ones, spax adjustable shocks which are fine but the front is probably a tad too low. I'm stuck with the height I'm at now or changes the springs so coilovers would give me the option to set the ride height bang on and hopefully with less compressed springs with the coilovers I won't have the bump stop problem. But my concern is clearance with the wheels, so it's a lot of dough to splash out on a chance.

From what i've read on here, the rears are a problem, they tend to rub on the rear inner arch, and a freind of mine had a set, but were supplied with the wrong spring length.
So you need to specify what spring length you want, and also look into some ofset rear top mounts so the it clears the inner arch

ive got them on mine but ive also got a set of kerries wms brakes my fronts are spaced out about 25mm to clear the calipers more than anything with my wheels so i cant really comment on the struts wether they will hit or not
gaz use standard bottom halfs of the 51mm strut so that should be fine on yours the problem will be the collar that winds the spring up may interfere with your tyre ive seen this a lot with coil overs on the front of e30s

Yes I think the collar could be a problem. I'm not sure what offset my wheels are but I'm pretty sure they'll rub even with spacers.

Are you set on the Gaz ones, have you considered any other makes?

I only chose Gaz because I know they are good quality. Doesn't have to be no.

You would be better off just choosing better springs and dampers, spax springs are soft, I had the 60/40 kit on my old 4 door and I had to fit Bilstein B8 dampers to get the car to ride sensibly, it was still a bit too soft on the front even then.

I'm not running spax springs, I can't remember the make I bought. There is nothing soft about the suspension, in fact it's quite a bit too firm for me.

If its hitting the bump stops it cant be that firm, is it excessively low?

I think it's more than 60mm, I'm wondering if the springs I bought were cheap crap. I think it's too low at the front for sure. So maybe some good quality springs will sort it. Any suggestions on what springs.

Got gaz golds on mine, with an offset of 25 on some 17s i had to run 10mm spacers to make them clear at the front, rear no issues.
My offset is nearly 0 now tho so got loads of room

Hi what have you done with the fuel breather pipe covers on the drivers side? I've fitted a few sets of coilovers and the springs always rub there on the inside if the coilovers are tried on without changing/repositioning the top mounts or using a big hammer on the pipe cover (and even that doesn't always work)?ross2009 wrote:[quo, the rears are a problem, they tend to rub on the rear inner arch,

i have BC coilovers and i have to run spacers 15mm+ at the front otherwise i cant even bolt my wheels.
with standard shocks they also rubbed a bit so its probably because of bad offset wheels.
im running azev A 16" 205s not sure what offset tough.
P.S. i think the gold collar ones posted several posts above by ross are BC coilovers like the ones I have.
