It's the 1st of April, and today is the first day the cabby comes out of hibernation.
However I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with Online DVLA taxing?
My car has been SORN'd for the last 6 months so I havent got any Tax Reminder Refernces. However I know I can use my "Document Ref Number" on the V5c.
The problem is, the website does not recognise my doc ref number! Over the years, i have used the same document ref number many times, however this time DVLA website is not recognising it no matter how many times I tried.
Tomorrow is Sunday so postoffice and dvla office is closed so cant get any answers.

print off a copy of the DVLA website fault and keep it with you as proof that you tried and that you will have to go to the P.O. tomorrow, should you get stopped by plod

It may be that you are about to receive a new V5 document (the red one) as DVLA are issuing new V5's due to a batch of the blue ones being nicked, so the system won't recognise the number on your current V5. Just a thought.
i had the same problem taxing mine this morning until the wife pipes up and says a new log book came through a few months ago. used new one and guess what, yes i am topless for the first time this yearE30BeemerLad wrote:It may be that you are about to receive a new V5 document (the red one) as DVLA are issuing new V5's due to a batch of the blue ones being nicked, so the system won't recognise the number on your current V5. I had trouble giving them money last week. If the car has been SORN they will not tax a car outside 2 working days from the date you wish to tax from.
Anyone know why? The bint in the PO didn't.

I tried to tax mine online after being SORNd since September. Looked up on the DVLA website and it said that you can't tax it for the following month until 2 days before (as someone said above).
Took it into the post office with the V5c and they scanned the barcode checked my other paperwork and I get my new disc - much easier than filling in the forms as you used to have.
Bright sunny day and the car's back on the road at last!
No idea why they won't let you tax in advance - maybe it's to stop people driving it before the tax starts when they haven't got tax already.

Im with you adit!!! looks like rain, snow and cold!!!!!!
I had the same problem trying to tax mine online on Sunday.
well, that's pretty obvious really! there's no start date on a tax disk, just an expiry.jas025 wrote:

odd that it thinks you're trying to tax in advance though. it always used to go back to the start of the month you were in, i.e tax a sorned car on 20th march and you'd get your 6 months starting from the 1st of march.
i wonder why they changed it
