Fog Light Woes

Okay, an issue i'd love some assistance with.

I've retro-fitted sets of foglights onto pre and post facelift E30's and never had a problem in the past.
My 1988 316 facelift is different however!
I fitted the fogs with new bulbs, fitted them on the car, plugged them in, fitted the correct relay, fitted the fuses into 29 & 30, fitted the bulb in the dash and lastly fitted the two button switch.
Nowt! Now not even the rear fogs (and rear fog dash light!)!!!!!

Refitted the single button switch and the rear fogs and dash bulb started working again - thank god!

Thought it was most likely an issue with the switch or relay because of the rear light issue, so bought another relay and switch from ebay, and still the same......feck all - no front or back lights/dash bulbs!
Checked the fuses (fine), the bulbs (fine), made sure the plugs/sockets from the wiring loom into the fogs were clean etc (fine).
Pretty annoying especially as I need to get it through its MOT soon!!!
From the symptoms i've described, am I right in thinking that I've been unlucky enough to buy 2 sets of dodgy relay or switches???
I don't know the first thing about electrics (and even though I have a 1st year university grasp of Physics, I don't think I could properly use a multi-meter).
Help!! MOT booked for Wednesday and I'd like to have them sorted if poss!
If I cant get this sorted by Wed, am I right in thinking that I could just take the front fogs out and refit the single rear fog switch - Is there an issue with leaving two gaping holes on the front of the car for the MOT?

Oh and the n/s front indicator is banjaxxed too!

did you put the telltale light in the instrument cluster?

yes but that doesnt affect the fogs working and certainly doesnt stop the rears from working.

At a guess i would replace relay K8...mine was behaving n much the same way but a new relay sorted it out..

Remove the fog light switch and bridge together the pins for the front fogs; can you make them glow by bypassing the switch?
