I have a clicking noise suddenly appeared from the rear brakes on my touring. If I move the handbrake lever up one notch it disappears but with the lever down, the noise is transmitted up through the lever as a vibration. Any ideas?

Maybe the cable has snapped. Does the handbrake grip both wheels? Put the handbrake fully on, put it in gear and dip the clutch so the back of the car dips down a bit. If it dips down evenly at the back it is gripping both wheels. But if one side doesn't dip down - that side of the handbrake isn't working.

E30s don't do snapped handbrake cables! They were made by BMW, not Ford.
Much more likely is that one of the handbrake shoe retaining pins has pulled through the backplate.
Take the disc off and have a look.

I know, I know but I was just trying to give a method for establishing which side was fooked.Brianmoooore wrote:E30s don't do snapped handbrake cables! They were made by BMW, not Ford.
