Is a e30m42b28 fast ?

Guys sorry to ask a stupid question but to those running 2.8 engines do you find them fast and satisfying ? I apologise if this sounds stupid but I really wanna know .

You mean m52b28, the m42 is a 16valve 4pot engine from the 318is. I've only driven a e30 with m52 once and it felt quicker than the alpina c2.7 I drove before it, it did have a 4.1 diff. Most will say it's fast enough.

in the real world they are plenty quick enough

Thanks I meant the m52 typed it wrong , thanks guys just looking to have a the m52 wondered how it will feel I have mostly had s50 and s52 s but a m 52 makes financial sense .Easy to buy if it goes bang .

Whats wrong with your S50 conversion? Major downgrade to the M52!

Im on my second S50 conversion, but am a big fan of the m52 engine conversion. Iv,e driven many and have liked them all,great useable power, virtually the same weight as the m20 6 cylinder ++ all the way. I doubt many who have experiece of them will disagree, but it all boils bown to what you want it for i suppose !

never driven a m52b28 in a E30 but i had a heavier e46 with one in and it was very good, smooth and quick right through the rev range....ide love a m52b28 in my baur.

I find mine fast and satisfying, as well as a fair MPG returned... Has a very nice torquey feel, if you replace the jugganaught duel mass flywheel for an m20 set up it will rev like a beauty, always brings a smile to my face.

Echo greens comment, I've had in my car and in order, m20b20-m20b25-m50b25 and the m52b28...... Its the quickest my car has been with this engine. I love my m52, great torque and smooth raw grunt all the way to the top! A torquey engine to use civily and drive spiritedly down low and just as happy to rev and produce great power up top. As said, with an m20 flywheel she revs up very nicely indeed. Its quick enough to worry people who pay thousands of pounds for cars wearing ST, type r, gti badges ect, and some turbos to!!

Oh and the exhaust note!! Ooosh lol
I love it, its very satisfying but the quest for more is I suppose never ending. I'm looking into cetrifugal super charging next but I'm more than happy to use her as she is until that happens, which, I'm in no real rush to achieve.

mpg is good also motorway i get about 50mpg, city 35mpg and thats not being shy on the pedal aswell. so guess i b able to even better mpg

I'm not quite getting the same mpg's as you mate, maybey I have a heavier foot... It the car or engines fault, she makes me do it hahaha. Its just the way she goes and sounds that gets me everytime. And talk about turn heads

I'm convinced my vanos seal is caput, but even with this my above comment still stands, I dunno, maybey there's more to be had in that case but even as she is I've embarrassed quite a few high end motors lol.

Will be intouch with Mr Danthe no less to aquire a set of seals, I may even stump up the wonga and take a road trip so he can fit also

did a m20 flywheel conversion and that help the mpg. thought my fuel gauge was playing up, till the light came on and was abit shocked

Which ratio diff are you running?

'cos 50 mpg is a good sell to the missus!

3.25:1 LSD

I put £50 in 30 litres and got 180 miles out it. 220 miles on the motorway i think can be done 80mph at 3.5 rpm 5th gear

My e21 gets an easy 40-45mpg and is quick enough to make Porsche Cayman drivers cry. Makes 220bhp and equates to just over 200 per ton. I run an e12 LSD (3.07) as I'm soon going to be running a 100bhp shot of nitrous, although it still pulls OK. I can usually pull 110+ before needing 5th - on a private road obviously.

Unless you have modified the capacitors or resistors (don't know which) in the MPG swingometer circuit, this gauge does not give accurate MPG readings once the 24v donks are in. They read rather optimistic MPG.

There's no way on earth you'll get 50mpg out of a N/A 6 pot

At a constant 70 - 75 I can get 40 - 45 mpg but I have a tall final drive and an e21 is a bit lighter.

i reset the miles on the speedo everytime i fill up and used to get 30mpg in the city. I put a m20 fly wheel on with a new slave and i get 35mpg till the light comes on now. as i said before i was shocked

That's bloody good. I have a heavy foot and 3.91 gearing so it's a bit busy

I can't say I've ever seen more than 30, but at the same time I've never bothered to work it out.

I certainly don't see 100 miles from say £20 of juice

used to have a 3.91 now on a 3.25 but used to get 23mpg with the 3.91 and with a 3.25 you will have a 1st gear of 30mph+ and a 0-60 in 5.5-6.0 secs

You're not alone Lee, mines averaging about 28 ish round town and I'm don't have the lightese of feet! Lol
3.64 ratio lsd..........

20 quid of juice I average anywhere from 60-80 depending of course on how I treat her. I don't think that's all to bad considering what were rockin round in guys
