Not sure i would run this to the back of the car, without trying i think there would be too much of a delay for the water to reach the jets, maybe a check valve would sort this.

Just a thought that was. Don't bleeding with non return valves in the pipe standard? Don't know how much lighter the bottles would be if bothhad say 1l of water in them. Would def be more room though.
Be nice to know the power weight ratio of your cars. I used to have a mk1 escort last year that was 240 odd bhp per tonne. That went well. If I can get the BMW to 180 bhp per ton think that would be quick with the large torque with the m52 which havnt fitted yet

My e30 325 weighs 1010kgs and am taking it to Surrey Rolling Road next Saturday to check power. It feels like a very sweet engine and a couple of people commented that it certainly seems quicker than you might expect a stock 2.5 to be.

My e21 weighs about the same and makes 222bhp. It's quite good fun. winkeye

Let us know how your 325 gets on. I was told mine made 172 with a rebuilt standard motor and dince I've fitted a 'wild chip' from the forum don't know if added any power but does seem keener. Will get mine weighed when I can

Mine was rolling roaded before I got it and returned 162hp. Seemed odd as the lump was on 85k and had a full service history, "wild" chip and scorpion exhaust and was noticeably quicker than other 325i's.

Need to get the car all wrapped up with the m50. It's only on 35k and looks super clean on the inside so hopefully make some good numbers

Surrey Rolling Road had an m50 that made 204 brake straight out the box!

Fibre glass bonnet now purchased, polycarb windows ordered and a weeks worth of slimfast shakes in the trolly. So close to getting an m20 6 branch as engine is a good one but bit pointless spending good coin when going to put an m52 in it at end of the year unless one comes up at the 'right' price

looks like a nice project :) how much have you managed to get the weight down? have you thought about fabricating an ally plenum thers a few kilos on that side of things. Also are you running a leci water pump?

Mirrors weigh a ton. Loose them for the track and just keepyour interior one. I've got little lightweight ones on mine

I've still got a few Kg's I can lose (from myself included!) but for now I'm going to leave as is. Once Winter arrives it'll be time for a leccy water pump, smaller mirrors, no dash etc.

Biggest difference yesterday was thanks to having some instruction. I know we all like to think we can pedal a bit but having an instructor point out all the little mistakes I was making really helped me. There were places where I was just getting on the power way too early and others where I didn't brake hard enough. By the end of the 20 minutes instruction I had really found a rythm and I could feel my lap times were noticeably quicker. The Caterham I passed and who couldn't stay with me noticed too! winkeye

I've just taken my front bumper off and Jesus it's heavy. I pulled out the plastic abs beam inside and got busy with the jigsaw- prob taken 30% weight out of it so far. I'm going to leave it in for simplicity and strength in case need to give someone a tap etc if holding us up on stage or if hit Tyres etc.

I am not sure if I would want to remove the heaterbox. Went to Brands in Autumn and it was raining all day long. With the heater on full fan and full hot I could just clear the front screen and half of the side windows.

My mate just bought one of them for his ae86 rally car. He said it's really light and compact.

Popped mine on the scales a couple of weeks ago. Fully stripped pre-facelift 316 with a 325i motor. RPM sumpguard, full welded in cage. Standard bonnet, boot, glass and battery in normal position and two seats :-(

That's very good.
The RPM sumpguard is pretty heavy, i struggle to carry it with one hand so it must be around 10Kg

How much petrol was in the car when weighed? Take away excess petrol weight and passenger seat, allow for weight loss that a fibreglass bonnet and race battery instead of standard would give, and you are coming in under 1000kg.

It was actually in my e21 and came from Fritz bits I think? It changed the way the car sounded but there was nothing much else. I got one because I'd done everything else but personally I would rather spend my dough on an m50/52 conversion. I'm not knocking the m20, it's just that I spent a fair chunk of cash building a 2.7 with all the trimmings and my m52 blew it into the weeds.

I got a mate to cut a load more holes out of it. Didn't weigh it before and after but it was noticeably lighter in my hand.

Could still do with more taking off it as we ran out of space on his machine table and couldn't get to the back part.

A lot depends on tyres suspension etc and how hard you are trying (ie brain out one off laps or reasonably comfortable consistent laps). IMO in a 325i anything close to a minute around Brands is plenty quick enough to feel that you are trying, much under a minute is the kind of pace where it could all start to go wrong on a track day.

As a comparison average E30 PBMW race laps (not far off standard mechanically 320i race weight 1125kg and 318i race weight 1065kg) are about a minute, a new lap record was set a couple of weeks back 57.9 something in a 320i. That is stunningly quick given the power/weight they are working with.

Well I'm pretty content as I managed to be consistently in the 59's and am certainly no talent when it comes to driving. It's just about having fun for me, although I don't want to be getting in the way either.

Just back from Surrey Rolling Road and the old m20 is still going strong after 24 years. :)
