If you're going down to bare block (piston rings) then change the conrod bearings and the main bearings.

And conrod bolts. Oil pump + water pump and all lower gaskets.

It does sound like a good time for a 2.7 conversion winkeye

Think the book recommends replacing the main bearing cap bolts too.

Just incase you're interested, these are about Ԛ£12 a set from the dealers, and the big-end bolts are around Ԛ£36 from the dealers.

If you're having the whole thing apart, I'd check the jack-shaft bearings too (although mine were fine even after 200k miles)

Need new head bolts too which cost about Ԛ£15 a set.

Check / replace the oil pump @ Ԛ£90 from dealer

Full top end gasket and seal set is about Ԛ£210 and bottom end gasket & seals are about Ԛ£60 iirc.

Get the cylinders checked and if they're in tolerance have them honed.

Plus whatever we've all forgotten about

Check valve guides for wear. Replace if neccessary, reface valves, cut seats and lap in. Not expensive at an engine rebuilder's.

It's that cam-belt driven shaft that drives the oil pump and would've driven the dizzy on early engines. It's housed in the block parallel to the crank.

While I think about it, I'd also replace the pencil drive for the oil pump just to be on the safe side. They're less than a fiver I think :)
