Ok, done a search, but it would appear I'm rubbish and can't find what I'm looking for!!!

Anyone know of, or done, a little guide on how to change the injectors on a 318i M40???
Any tips???

Also, heard I will need to replace the inlet gasket?? Anyone know a part number please???

Cheers!!!

I have just done this on my M40 318i...I did not replace the injectors but sprayed them with Carb Cleaner and replaced the top and bottom O rings.
If you can find someone who can re-furbish them you could save money on buying new ones.

Are you sure there is not a Wiki for this?
The Haynes manual gives the procedure but they are incorrect in stating that the lower section of the inlet manifold also has to be removed...avoid doing that as then you will need to replace the long gasket that goes onto the head.

Disconnect the battery.
Remove the large hose from air-filter to the Throttle Body inlet.
Remove the throttle cable.
Disconnect the connector going to the injectors underneath the throttle body and the connector going to the Throttle Position Switch.
Be very careful in the following steps to disconnect the water hoses and ICV/PCV hoses that attach to the Thottle Body assembly....the water hoses go down to a plastic plenum that picks up hot water from the side of the engine block.
This plastic plenum gets very brittle with age and if you are not careful you will snap off the plastic outlets on the plastic plenum...ask me how I know this.
You also need to remove the ICV valve from the bottom of the inlet manifold...this is the cylindrical metal bit near the battery and the firewall.
Now undo the nuts that hold the top inlet casting to the lower casting....11mm nuts and the two bolts that go downwards into the lower casting...10mm I think. Pull the upper casting off of the lower one...if you are lucky the gaskets will still be good otherwise you will need new ones PN: 11-61-1-721-346...use www.realoem.com to check part numbers.
Now disconnect the fuel lines going to the fuel rail..some petrol will spill out and unbolt the fuel rail...check that the two small rubber fuel pipes are in good shape or replace!
The fuel rail is held in place by two bolts...17mm I think.
Now you can give the fuel rail a good pull and it will come off with the four injectors attached. Pull off the retaining clips for each injector and pull out each injector. When putting injectors back...put some engine oil on the O rings first. :)

Edit to add: I removed the lower intake casting as well so as to spray both castings with heat-proof black matt paint as well as the Cam cover and then scaped off the lined sections and the BMW logo to make the engine look really neat! :D

Awesome - thanks for that Bill!!!

As i said, did a search and couldn't find anything M40 specific in the wiki - there was a mention of 6 injectors in one article I found and i guess it's almost the same procedure to be fair!!

Already got a set of four refurbished injectors sitting here, ready to go in!!!!!

Cheers!!!
