I bought some sykes pickavant (sp) ones for Ԛ£25, quite good. They are basically two lengths of studding with a nut on the end of each and two claws to hold the spring top and bottom.

You can get really nice ones that make the job easier but they cost about Ԛ£80. They are one unit that clamps around the spring, they hold the spring very well and don't slip.

Some Ԛ£25 ones will do the job if you are rarely going to use them.

I am after a set of the threaded bar with forged jaws type, not the shitty press steel ones, i am only going to use them once changing the rear springs on E30, (Well once per spring anyway)

Mine are the forged/cast ones, the pressed steel ones are crap.

I take it your fitting different springs to raise the back end?

no u don't if they are 318iS springs then they are same as 325i sport springs! I have changed these before and never needed them. So u don't, is what i'd say. But i maybe wrong. I wouldn't buy original second hand E30 springs as they are probably f**ked

just my 2p

Look at the pic i have posted,

The red ones are the springs that are coming out becuase they lower the car to much. The black ones are standard springs from an IS which are going in. When i drop the trailing arm, there is just enough room to remove the smaller red spring. The red springs were sized next to some standard M3 Springs, and they were smaller than thoses, by around 10-15mm.
