Hello all.
I am wondering what others are using suspension setting/tire pressure wise for a "fast road/track day" setup.
I am running;
E36 M3 Evo (Apex) front coilovers
E36 M3 Evo wishbones with powerflex offset bushes
RPM E30 Topmounts
M3 Roll bars
E36 M3 Evo (Apex) rear springs
Rear beam modified for camber/toe adjustment and Powerflex bushes
Stiffer rear shocks, e46 rear top mounts and Z3 plates
Yokohama parada spec 2 tyres (215/40/17 all round), nitrogen filled.
I have just built the car and need to take it for alignment. What are your suggestions ? Its being driven to the Nurburgring on the last day of this month for a long weekend.
Also if any fellow Zoners want to come along that would be great. A friend is also taking his E30 M3.
Thanks
Will

You've got a lot of nice modifications, however parada's are going to be your weak point, they are not a very good tyre.
Did you get the car setup? What did you go for in the end?

They are not my first choice of tyre but the ones I wanted (kumho v70a or r888) are well over twice the price and my funds are running out. I got them for £317 delivered (new), which I thought was a good price.
The car has not been set up yet I am just finishing the work for it's mot tonight with some friends and it will go for setup mid week after it's mot.
I'm told max castor at the front but am unsure of the camber and toe all around. Time is running out and I need to get a good starting point so I an drive it for a few weeks and make adjustments before getting to the ring obviously.
Then I have to get saving for some decent tyres when I am back lol.

I can only tell you what i run.
Front toe is: 0.5deg
Front Camber is: -2.5deg
Castor is: -15deg
Rear toe is: -1.25deg
Rear Camber is: -1.45deg
^ Thats based on my ride height which you may or may not be able to achieve with a 17" wheel as the tyre diameter is quite large.
Hope that helps.

I had done before posting this, yes. I am going again in March. Its a seriously expensive addiction lol...
Tell me about it!!
I've been about 15 times in the past 3 years.
Try a track day out there, its about £450 but if you split it between yourself and a mate it's really reasonable.
The best thing about it is theres hardly any traffic or muppets crashing every 5 mins.
They put marshalls all around the circuit and if there is an "incident" they don't close the track they just marshall around it.
Last time I did a track day they had the GP circuit open as well and I think I managed about 5 laps without seeing another vehicle!!!!

I'm doing a 2-day trackday there on 20/21 March. It's the VLN circuit, so includes part of the GP track (misses out the far end but still too much for me as I prefer the Nordschleife. However it has the advantage of being able to use the pits which if the weather is sh!tty, will be a big bonus. You can share 6-8 cars in a garage if some are out on track so not a lot more on top.

Did you bale out Andrew? I didn't see you there? If you did, you missed an awesome two days. Fabulous weather and generally pretty clear laps. Quite like the photo below showing both of those aspects - plus me in the old girl:Demlotcrew wrote:See you there!

I'm building a very similar setup. Just wondering - are the ARBs E30 M3 items? Do they fit nicely to the E30 subframe and the ARB mounts on the E36 struts?Driftnething wrote:Hello all.

E30 M3 roll bars, E36 M3 arb links to the struts. The fit is the same as non M3 E30 items.
I would advise taking it somewhere motorsport orientated to get the alignment/setup done though. I thought I had this covered but the numpty set it to OEM E30 316i spec.
It drove very nicely on the road but I felt it needed more front camber for the track which was confirmed by a well known/experienced driver at the ring.
The tyres were crap and I had a fuelling problem (nearly ran out !). but I still had an awesome time, just a shame that everybody was crashing and the track was closed a LOT !
Here is a fairly relaxed lap. You can hear it holding back quite a few times (coming up to the karrussell in particular).
But considering I got the car together and on the road pretty much the day we left

Once the car is done I will not be doing another TF day.
Its track days all the way now for me, There were a lot of crashes and down time...
The destination nurburgring days look appealing !

Having just returned from DN5 (well, almost - 1hr until we dock at Newcastle) I would endorse that. TF is OK on midweek evenings, but can be chaotic at weekends. And ten there is the insurance issue. Many folks think that their only worry is the potntial loss of their own car. That's the least to worry about. TF is mixed car & bike, and they don't come together well. Also, any fluids you may drop can have a catastrophic affect on anything following, and I certainly can't afford the consequential damages should a Porsche or CSL bin it on my oil, or Heaven forbid, the driver/rider gets seriously injured.Driftnething wrote:Once the car is done I will not be doing another TF day.

I've now done 4 of the 5 DN events and everyone has been awesome. Off there again in October. Time to start saving (again).
