Getting into the boot - broken mechanism

The key is working as usual but nothing is happening with the latch and the boot is staying locked. I think something is broken off/disconnected inside, what's the easiest way to get the boot open with the least damage? Thanks. The boot has three spare wheels and a couple of jerry cans in, so no hope of access from inside the car even if I punch out the ski hatch.
