Hey fellas,
Was hoping to get some insight to a potential auto gearbox fault.
The autobox in my 325i was reconditioned in 2008, at 87k miles. ( I don't know what work was carried out I just have the service receipt.) Its now got 107k miles and still pulls like a train apart from a few blips it seems to have...
About a month ago I got in it and began driving it only to notice it wouldn't change from 1st gear, I know was 3rd gear limp mode is, this was stuck in 1st.
I pulled over shut the car off, turned it back on and it was fine and shifted normally. Since then the transmission light has come on twice when i've started it up, again I shut it off and started it again, all good.!
Seems like an electrical fault, possibly wiring/harnesses?
The gearbox also makes a sight hissing sound only when in reverse. it is supposed to do this?
Any ideas would be appreciated.

When was the last time you checked the gearbox oil level or changed the gearbox oil ?
Is it the switchable auto or standard auto ?
Maybe worth disconnecting the battery and letting any systems reset before trying again ?

Checked the gearbox oil, its on the full mark. It was changed in 2008, and has done 20k miles since the refurb. The oil is still red and transparent.
The gearbox is the switchable sport model, S, E,123.
