This obviously runs engine coolant into and out of the front section of the throttle body...I presume this is to prevent icing up in cold envirements.
The M40 has a plastic section of piping feeding water from the engine block to the heater core and it also runs up to the throttle body. The plastic section has broken where the feed pipe is taken off...really bad design from BMW to use plastic where metal would have been a more logical option.
I will be making enquiries about the cost of a new plastic piece but I think I am going to be extremely shocked at the price from the dealers.
So I am thinking of blocking off the broken section so that hot water no longer flows to the throttle body. Where I live the overnight temperature in mid winter never goes below 8 degrees Centigrade so icing up of the throttle body should not be an issue or am I missing something here?
Do I need this heating effect for normal driving and will there be some performance or economy issue with the water pipes blocked off?
