Great to see yet another E30 racer out there!! Not sure if you can be tempted mate, but if you'd prefer to race an E30 325, there's always the Kumho series run by the BMW Racing Drivers Club. Details are at www.bmwrdc.com

Highly recommend Kumho BMW's as a starting point, most of the people in the championship have been there since '87 so they know their way around and have huge experience they can impart to any newbies. There are also alot of 325's already committed to 2006 so there will be lots of similar cars to play with and the speeds involved will provide alot more adrenaline
drop me a line if you need some advice on car prep and what and what not to buy, done it a few times now!

welcome innocenti, follow the links in JimmyC's post and post up in the (Milltek Sport) BMW Challenge Forum under motorsport and track days in the seloc.org site.
It's true that the Kumho race cars are faster due to the regulations but the Milltek BMW challenge is designed to be a budget series (as much as motorsport ever can be) so work out your budget and take your pick.

I agree with Calder...
I used to race in the Kumho series (in a 2002) but left partly due to the spiralling costs...Not to stay in the series (that can be relatively cheap), but by trying to stay competitive.
You could probably build a car for the Kumhos for not a lot more than for the Millteks, but you need to bear in mind in the Millteks all the cars are built to a similar spec and budget whilst the Kumhos now have cars that have budgets that wouldn't be out of place in Britcars or as a privateer in the BTCC!
If you can compete with that sort of cash, want a fun and fast series, but with no prize money and little sponsorship potential along with the limited exposure (so less opportunity to get a paid drive, if such be your thing), then the Kumhos is great. Otherwise you will always be a mid-field runner at best.
I doubt there is a class A or B car in the field, these days, that costs less than Ԛ£20K for the car alone...Even a used example will cost ya around that!
If you want to be competitive in the Kumhos you will also need to test...all the leading guys test extensively...That means mid-week days with shleps to your nearest circuit or turning up a day or two early for every race meeting...
All for a 10lap race with little reward and lots of cost!

A top end Miltek car can be built for about Ԛ£4k if you do alot of the work yourself, and you could probably squeeze an engine rebuild into that too (the same car could also cost you alot more- depends how hard you push on prices etc- i'm a pikey so I push prices lo.
But you could start racing in the milteks for alot lot less- I reckon a DIY car could be built for Ԛ£2k maybe less
Car costs tend to get you money in the bank- I made Ԛ£150 from selling what I stripped out! then all you need is cage, seat, fx, harnesses, wheels, rubber, bushes, suspension, and a few other bits and bobs and you racing- OK you may not be winning but you'll be having a ball and racing
I'm prepping a Miltek at the mo if you want any details or have any questions PM your number and i'll give you a buzz

the seloc series is 318 and 320 with minimal mods IIRC.
A friend and I are looking to start some kind of amateur racing this coming year and we're looking at this as one possible series.

If anybody is thinking of building a 320 for this season, I've just stuck a base car on ebay with the basic stripping already done if yr interested, needs the FIA and race bits added and you're good to go. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 4605905490

Hi Jimmy, nope its the one Jez Clarke started building before he was offered the MX5 sponsored drive. Ours aren't even stripped out yet, but hoping to remedy that this weekend
Bought this one when I was thinking of just selling mine as a road car and building this because of time, but the challenge of starting from scratch and doing everything myself was not to be resisted and also Mickey thinks that two cars the same colour will be better for his garage sponsorship stickers
I've also learnt a lot about M20 engines from fixing this one, not sure that's a good thing tho
. So the money from this will hopefully cover my ARDS and mebbe contribute towards Combe.
Cheers
