Hi my cd player the display doesn't show anything or light up, I tried another one and same thing, both old cd players but unlikely both are broken, also both of them will take and eject a cd, but blank screen and no sound etc, so its almosyt like there getting some power but not enough, what would anyone recommend testing wise, check the 12 volts are there on red cable and that the remote 12volts are there too?
Cheers
Matt

Most CD headunits require 2 12V+ supplies, One is Acc switched, and the other is permanent.
ISO wiring is Red 12v+ ACC and Yellow 12v+ Perm

Whats the advice check the remote 12v and permanent 12volts yes?
Guessing black (or the thickest wire) will be ground, or can just use a bolt nearby as ground anyway.
cheers

E30 earth is brown. All three supply wires come from a fur pin section of the accessories socket.

Hi was thinking about this today, haven't look at it yet, but do the remote and permanent 12 volts come from th same feed.
I was wondering if the cd player fuse has blown in the fusebox?
would the eject art work but the rest of it not work if this was the case?
Also (i'm going to sound stuoid now) but where is the fusebox? boot or under passenger/driver footwell?
cheers

Where is the fusebox?? Haven't you ever opened the bonnet?
Switched and permanent live come from two separate feeds, but through two pins of the same socket section on the accessories socket.
The relevant fuses also feed other things, so won't be blown if this is your only electrical problem.

The remote should only be live (12v+) when the head unit is on. It should ony be conneted to things like electric ariels and ampilfiers.
Perm 12V+ is a fused feed directly from the battery.
the eject button will still work on most head units if the perm live and earth are connected, Even if the unit does not turn on....

Ok so bad power connection or ground probably, will have to get the voltmeter out and do some resistance and voltage checks.
thanks for the advice Brian

what do you think the issue is and wheres the best place to start, check all the wiring?
seems a odd fault for the cd player to not light up or play, tried 2 cd players, there were both old, but doubt both are knackered.
cheers

Quick easy test of the head unit.
Check for a fuse on the head-unit and make sure its ok.
Find the Acc12v+ and Perm12v+ on the head-unit. connect them together. Get yourself a peice of wire with a fuse, 5 or 7.5amp, and connect the wire to the acc and perm you have connected together. now connect the head-unit to a live 12v+ and earth, if the head-unit is ok, it should switch on and light up ok......
