hi, recently bought a daily tourer, put on my alpinas the other week and noticed drivers side scrubs at rear. after a little head scratching i noticed the driver wheel sits out (closer to arch) than the passenger side which sits perfect.
anybody had a similar problem and solved it?
any suggestions?
could it just be a worn bush or something?

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks.
andrew.

Its a long shot but a while back another zoner had a very similar issue and it was a really old spacer still on the hub as it had rusted up he didn't notice it was there at first. If anything its worth double checking.

Either one of the beam bushes is shot, or the beam/trailing arm is bent.

well, i originaly thought trailing arm bushes, bought some but was running out of time today so thought id do another day, then thought if im doing another day ill buy some beam bushes too and do it in a oner.

would the beam bushes being worn be enough to keep alignment consistantly to one side?

its seeming more like something is fekd eh?

Have you tried swapping the wheels from side to side? Just to illiminate the wheels being different.

No, but ive measured the wheels whilst they were on and no difference, i also measured the brake disc incase they were different but just the same.
Also checked hub nuts to make sure theyr tight and same on both sides.
Reckoning it must be bent beam or trailing arm.
Will obtain other beam etc and try it to see.
Fingers crossed!

Check the camber on each trailing arm i had an e30 once where the rear arm was bent so one wheel sat nearly upright and the other was at a camber

I know someone who had a different wheel.. same width etc but the offset was different and that was causing it to catch the arch! caused a lot of head scratching and you have to take the wheel off and measure from the outer lip to the hub-face to find it (or swap them over as was previously suggested) if it's a bent arm the car will drive strangely.. and possibly steer itself when you let go of the wheel.. if it's a bush you'll probably notice lots of clonking over bumps etc.. :D

thanks for all the pointers.
ive measured wheels again and all seems well.
the camber is like jonny said, the scrapping side is practily vertical!
so ive arranged to pick up another beam and arms with poly bushes, and ive ordered new top mounts, hopefully saturday i will fit it all and that will be that.

will keep you posted.

thanks for the help guys!

Sounds like it may have met a curb at some point.
Seems to be quite common on e30s since the drift scene took off.

Or pull the arch? 5mm shouldn't be too difficult. Telephone directory held against tyre between arch at furthest point rear... slowly crawl forward and it should pull out without cracking paint or distorting. Will probably shred the directory though. I've rolled and pulled rear arches this way before and only once cracked filler that had been too thickly blobbed on by a previous bodyshop. Good luck.

Here's a US approach:

Go to 5:36 for another similar method, if you're brave enough!
