Bit of help....
Not sure if mine have blown or are fooked, but do you need to do anything to them other than run lines in from the front speakers?
I tried cables across the feeds and nothing. They don't need crossovers or anything do they?

I'm pretty sure they need a cross over Stu! Same with all tweeters from memory.
I may be wrong but I remember when I was trying to figure out what I needed to get mine working, still sat not working but do look cool.

Bugger. Thought so, as even blown speakers make some sort of crackling noise

Crossovers on mine were cobbled into the wiring for the front speakers :

I've binned the scotchlocks and re-done them with block connectors now but they need soldering really

If you don't already have xovers you will need to fit them to stop the low frequencies reaching the tweeters as they aren't designed to respond to the full range of signal from your headunit or amp. xovers are just an inline capacitor which filters out low frequency, about £1 each from maplin, but you will need to work out the rating of the capacitor to suit the frequency response of the tweeter, there must be a table on the net somewhere.bigwinn wrote:Bit of help....

If you mean you have capped the speakers because you are using a sub then they will be inline on the speaker wire, if you mean to the tweeters you'll still need them using the headunit power.diable wrote:Out of interest where is the crossover located as I am thinking of removing the amp in my car and going back to standard.

I'm looking to connect up my tweeters and thought the crossovers were parts 6 & 7 here?

If your car came with tweeters, it should have the crossover (actually 'high pass' - not a proper crossover) capacitor built into the footwell speakers, where the plugs on the standard tweeter wiring (fitted to all E30s) plug in.
If you're adding tweeters, then you need to add a bipolar electrolytic capacitor in one tweeter wire. Something like 4.7uF or 6.8uF is about right, IIRC.
If the tweeters have been connected straight across the speaker wires for any length of time, they will have blown.

The best option (imho) would be to purchase a nice 2 way component set to replace the standard speakers!!!
Should be a noticeable improvement in the sound and will obviously come with relevant/matched crossovers!!!
(I'm assuming you still have original speakers!!!)
