Some ignition timing adjustments may be needed as the timing gear on the front of the engine can actually move which would render a basemap incorrect, must be checked with a timing light.
The reference adjustment can be found in
Base setup - Primary trigger settings - TDC after the trigger.
The TDC MUST be verified by putting a screwdriver into the engine to find the pistons TDC position and mark the timing gear. Otherwise if being off won´t be caught. This is unlikely but a warning I´ve helped one guy before who´s trigger was well off.
The ignition for the M20 and M30 I have used to 1.5bar boost on a 8.8:1 compression engine so should suit everybody for a start.
The M50 baseline is a modified improved M50B25 map that I have tuned to 1bar boost. But has been safely used to 1.3bar boost (lots of wheelspin though, owner is making north of 500lbs torque probably).
Few tips for those who are doing their own wiring
ETM - Electronic Troubleshooting Manuals
http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm
find the one relating to your vehicle.
From C101 or X20 ,
Green - 12v for the ecu - 36/15 on the VEMS
Black - Tacho from the ecu 18/4 on the VEMS
You can wire in your speed signal if it´s there, might need a pullup to 5v for the VEMS to see it clearly all the time(I´ve never wired it though)
Fuel econometer signal is not used.
----
All grounds (Brown wires on BMW´s of this era)
Should be soldered into a single joint like the userguide suggests. Like so.

----
While in VEMSTune you can hit F1 key for help almost all the time. Use this well.
I think it´s best if we keep all questions and answers to this thread. When asking more then one question number them and I will reply in a numbered fashion.
i.e
Q
1. Where do I change the revlimit?
2. How do I wire the main relay?
A
1. The revlimit is in Base setup - Revlimit... : Fuel cut rpm limit
2. On these BMW´s the main relay is powered by a brown grounding wire which according to the basemaps is wired to EC36/16 , you can find all the current outputs in : Outputs - Output channels, there you can find the pin number as well.
By doing it like this it will be easier for everybody to keep track of questions and answers and stops repeated questions. As it´s almost certain that most will have the same questions as everybody is new to VEMS and probably ecu wiring as well.
I´m going to pickup the ecu´s tomorrow so I´d reccomend people start looking at their basemaps and start asking questions.

Cheers Gunni mate, the VEMS arrived safe and sound this morning.......
I opened the box, took a quick look and thought WTF, If I try and wire that up, i'll probably end up setting off a nuke in Japan

So it looks like i'll be needing someone to wire it up and unleash the full potential

hmmmm wonder who could do that

M50 Turbo!!!
I shall say no more

Lol for this same reason I am getting Gunni to modify my loom for VEMS!craigieeb wrote:![]()

Hello all! I have another question may be a stupid 1, how exactly do I load the base map you have provided? When I click it it opens a page up with settings I think, do these have to be set manually?
Im not actually at the stage of fitting it yet just get myself up to speed,I thought people would be firing question all over the shop!!!

Whats the best way to control the boost with this ECU set up?
electronic (like an N75) ?
or just a manual valve?
also how does it connect to the Vems.... from the wastegate or fron a valve
cheers
