7 year old and only £57k depreciation. That's only £8k per annum.

Wait till something goes wrong, it will depreciate a hell of a lot quicker than 8k a year!

I have driven a few of these now. My Dads mate has one and a couple have been through the workshop which i have worked on one of which was sold as an approved used car @ £19995 with similar mileage.
I would have one of these over an E60 M5 by a mile. They are are ballistic yet very refined.
Shit loads of torque as well!
I don't like the interior of the one on ebay, even with the Alpina details.
The one to go for is a last of the line B5S which has more power and an LSD.
One like this for me please!

proper chariot that Bazza
and yes i would also have one over the M5,
what holds me back is the fact that if anything falls off, it would really hurt,
the running/servicing costs must be astronomical, Hence my love of older scrap that can be fixed with scrap parts and a hammer !

I know a trader who has just bought an E60 M5 for less than 10 bags !
The fuel bills and running costs are slaughtering the residuals of these big turds.

Shame it sufferes from expensive problems which are now becoming common and is saddled to a shite gearbox which also suffers from expensive problems which are becoming common.pony wrote:but WHAT A CAR.......how can u argue with that high-revving normally-aspirated screaming V10!!pacerpete wrote:I know a trader who has just bought an E60 M5 for less than 10 bags !The fuel bills and running costs are slaughtering the residuals of these big turds.

However, is not the SMGIII meant to be better than the SMGII?bss325i wrote:Shame it sufferes from expensive problems which are now becoming common and is saddled to a shite gearbox which also suffers from expensive problems which are becoming common.pony wrote:but WHAT A CAR.......how can u argue with that high-revving normally-aspirated screaming V10!!pacerpete wrote:I know a trader who has just bought an E60 M5 for less than 10 bags !The fuel bills and running costs are slaughtering the residuals of these big turds.

I know there r some scare stories about SMGII apparently on the net but (also according to BMW Car magazine) for every 1 that has failed there are probably another 9 or whatever the statistic is that are ACTUALLY OK.
Also, having driven the SMGII (my old man used to have one as company car from 2004 - 2007 Coupe Mystic Blue) though i prefer a Manual Gearbox - i think it actually is fine to drive.....yeah u get a little thump in the back if u dont lift off slightly which helps to eliminate it but i enjoy the thump (though i am not sure if it is good for the clutch lifespan!?). Yes in any of the "Automatic" programs its sucks! Launch control/Burnout mode is mighty fun though
Paddle shifts in my opinion if someone has never driven them i think u just need to relax into it and dial in or get used to it. Technically it is actually "safer" because you keep your hands on the steering wheel. And if u do need to change gear in a corner it is that little bit safer though changing gear in a corner (does it not destabilise the car slightly???).
It is funny because when SMGII first came out in 2001 i think i have a copy of one of the automotive magazines they never mentioned anything about (lifting off when you change up just keep your foot on the throttle and bury it).....but i think the accepted practise now is to lift off.

I cant be f*cked to write out some long reply but take my word for it, both SMG 2 and 3 are becoming more and more problematic with age and are not cheap to fix. E46's are old cars now and the earliest E60's are getting on to!
Also DCT compared to SMG is like comparing carbs to injection.
Go and drive a DCT car and you will realise how shit SMG really is.
The only time SMG is passable is when you are ragging the tits of the car, every other time and its just annoying.
Dont get me started on SSG!

Oh and for the last few years all the automatic BMW's with a six pot engine be they petrol or diesel have paddles on the steering wheel and function really well.
You can even fit the E46 SMG steering wheel to any E46/E39/E53 with a steptonic auto to shift manually instead of using the stick.
