Id get someone to pour water into this area while id be in the footwell with a torch to see where it is coming from..then take it from there.

you sure its water and not clutch fluid as i've heard the master cylinder leaks onto the carpet area

exactly what i did, its definatley coming past the steering column at the bulkhead joint..and its definitely water...but there is no water on the engine bay side so how is it getting through there?

could it be collecting in the space where those vents go to? like at a drain or something? inside the bulkhead i mean

could be or could be that your battery tray has rusted through allowing water past it? do you have that sound deadening stuff on your bulkhead? if so id get that out of the way and check for holes mate.

ill have a look.

anyone know if its possible for water to get into that vent and somehow get in that way? the water comes through even a minute or two after water has run off the car..and the bulkhead is dry so this leads me to think a body of water is being trapped somewhere.

ill have it off and have a look though you're right

cheers

Could well be the drain channels from the sun roof are blocked and have rusted through behind the dash. Sounds like a ball ache but better to strip it all out and catch it before it becomes terminal.

If you look through the scuttle grilles, you'll be peering into a triangle of steel whose bottom corner finishes just above the steering column. It's a three-skin joint where the scuttle, the bulkhead and the floorpan all meet up.

Pour some water through the scuttle grilles, and see if it drips into the cabin. If it does, you've got some rust lurking.
