As some of you may know, I'm building an M50 turbo engine,
and with lots of boost I'v had to buy a 2.65 ratio diff,

now this diff that I bought came with a single point for mounting, ( E28 E24 ? )
so my intention was to "upgrade" the backing plate to the "twin eared" cover
just so it can handle the power without twisting on the single point and ripping it's self off the car,

I'v just bought a diff cover, went to put it on the diff,
and ran into a problem straight away,

it doesn't fit :(

the cover its self is catching on the erm.. "fins" where the speedo sensor goes :?

You can just see the fins through the sensor hole

These are the "fins" i'm talking about..(closest to the camera)

and here's a picture of the 2 covers

Long and winded post yes,
but

can anyone tell me what's what?
i.e why the cover doesn't fit?
and
what cover will be suitable

Cheers.

Hmmm, just been thinking....

What if I get a 5mm plate to go between the diff and the cover?

you need an e36 or e34 'fin' if you split it carefully and keep the parts on the same side as they came from you can pull the centre out and pry it off and press a new one back on which is the correct size.

Sounds easy enough,
I'll have look on realoem/BMW fans, for a part number,
As I dont think I'll find one of those on eBay lol.

Thirded :)

When you press the new one on, it helps to heat it up a lot to make it expand. Also, try and cover everything possible with tissue as they often shave off a little of the trigger wheel and this drops straight onto the bearing. one of those 'magnet on a stick' divices is handy here too :)

If you struggle to find a E34 or E36 trigger wheel, let me know as i may have on here somewhere
