Can't wait fella...can't wait...hope the weather will be with me as I don't have a double garage like I used to have...
Anybody near Stansted airport that can give a hand with the transplant between 24th and 27th Oct?? I will provide the beer and the snacks...

Tips for you, fit engine with gearbox attached, also fit the exhaust manifold before dropping the donk in as it's no fun trying to fit exhaust manifolds to these when the engine is in. You may have to disconnect the steering UJ from the rack but saves loads of hassle. Leave the inlet manifold off when dropping it in as it's a pain to connect the heater pipes & do up the jubilee clips with the manifold in the way.

I will start to take out the old M40 out...and I've started to strip all the underdash trim out to try and understand what bits I need to remove, when I realised my loom is even more complicated as I have a Piranha Tham 400 immobilizer attached to it...is this going out?! I will post some pictures up...

This system is attached behind the glovebox...as I have a "plug and play" loom from Dan...looks like that bit stays like it is but I'm not the expert...

Rip it all out! You will most probably end up with two plain green wires that need to be joined back together, and possibly two black/yellows or two green/purples.

Thank you! Easy for you to say "rip it all out!...for me is like cutting a wired bomb! :cry:

I have a thatcham cat 1 viper and I never needed to touch that when doing my loom!
Only part of the loom that comes into the car is the ecu connector that comes in through the gromit under steering wheel..... Everything else is connected under the bonnet (c101 ect)
A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better winkeye :D

True, but when I see the standard of installation of most aftermarket immobilisers, out they come!
It'll be redundant when EWS is fitted, anyway.

I see what you mean with that brian, I've seen some scary instals myself before but I've looked over mine and it seems to be done to a very good standard. Even have the certificate, fitted by directed electronics iirc

On the ews side of things it doesn't interfere with my viper, if I don't press the pager the car won't do a thing...... Once disarmed the car starts aslong as the chip is present :)

If dropping the lump in with the box attached, get the arse of the car up in the air. Makes life easy.

Also a balance bar would be invaluable. I didn't use one and went for the ghetto approach. Made life more difficult than it should have been

All done now and fired up...started first time

The only problem is that I have a rough idle... goes up and down for some reason and if I unplug the AFM the idle settles but runs rich

I will start with cleaning the AFM and see how it goes...

Any other ideas?

Its a MAF, do you have the lambda plugged in? Checked the ICV when it was off?

Have another problem...
The battery doesn't seem to be up for the bew job..what amps battery do i need to start a 6cyl?!

An 096 battery will do the job. Never run any E30 on anything less.

Just ordered a Bosch silver 74ah and another lambda sensor as I've been told that that might be the problem with the rough idle...cleaned MAF and checked the ICV but they seems to be ok...don't know much about lambda but someone can teach me...

You can mount that PAS bottle down on the engine mount arm, it's a bit less in the way there

Almost done!

Sorted almost all the air leaks, the idle is nice at the moment, still some issues with the start sometimes but i've ordered another ignition switch...

Also i've noticed that the engine was cutting out when I was breaking and realised that was an air leak around the pipe that goes to the brake master cylinder...almost sorted now...

Had a go around the block and... f@ck is quick...

The exhaust is a bit loud for my taste but i'll have to live with it at the moment...

Still need to do the tracking as I had new steering rack and rod ends... a good clean and some polish and I'm ready to move on...Brock's refurb!

Ahhh...engine detailing is first...need to paint black some of the bits and to sort out the loom...

If someone has a M30 or M50B25 air box, I'm interested to buy it

It's good to hear your getting there mate.

Your set up is a good one!

It will feel quick.

Lightened M20 flywheel and new clutch, viper ecu and bbtb all included when I sold it.

Still 4.10 open diff i'm using...but lets see! Will the M50 break the 4.10 diff?

It had an E30 box bolted to the back of the donk when it left here. It will be rev happy through the box with the 4.10 diff. High speed crusing wont be your friend. It depends what your going to use it for. I reckon a 3.64 lsd would be your ideal option

It's still using the same box...M40's if i'm not wrong...just had a good clean and new ATF added...I don't think that will do many motorway miles as I have my missus x5 diesel to use...this will be my around the town and work joy...

I have a open 3.64 and a 3.25 lsd in case I go turbo after I get bored with it like this...is the headgasket up for the job?! I think you put a thicker one, don't you?

BB = Big Bore

Its the thickest headgasket V R do for the M50

I was only planning low boost from a small Super Charger though.

If your going Forced Induction you'll defos need uprated head bolts and ap rod bolts IMO
