Lights on the dash
Moderator: martauto
Hi all...
I got myself a 318iS a few weeks back. It had been serviced recently but the lights hadn't been put out, had the amber and red (1 red) on...so I did the paperclip trick, turned the ignition and hey presto, it went out.
But I'm not sure if it's all gone out and is how it should be...I've still got the annual check lights up I believe.
What should/shouldn't be illuminated when all is tickeddy boo?
Thanks
Jamie

I get all 4 greens, no amber and no red. It then ticks down the greens like 4,3,2,1, amber then red as time and the certain miles pass by.

Reset it again, and the other light will go off.
The green lights come on with the ignition, and then go off when the engine is started. After 1000 miles or so, one of the green LEDs will go off. The exact distance depends on how much driving has been done with a cold engine and how much has been done at high revs. After all the green LEDs have extinguished the yellow LED will come on in conjunction with the 'oil service' or 'inspection' light, and will stay on when the engine is running. After a week or so, the red LED will come on as well.
The 'clock' symbol is a simple 12 month timer, and should come on in conjunction with the 'inspection' light.

Is each light really only about 1000 miles?Brianmoooore wrote:....After 1000 miles or so, one of the green LEDs will go off....

Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting you.... I really need to go and have a look at my service history and see what it says!

6000 miles is about the average period between oil changes for cars of this era.

Try resetting it again. If still the same, then the board is probably duff.

Won't be the batteries, but you could try a different little daughter board with the LEDs and bulbs on it.
