318i running rich (I think)

Hi,

I believe my engine is running rich (318i M40), there is a petrol smell from the exhaust (i.e. doesn't smell like normal exhaust fumes) and the fuel economy has got a bit worse.

Can the mixture be adjusted/is there anything to check/common problems etc.

It's also started overheating in traffic but I've read the Wiki so I'm going to try those tests first to try and diagnose.
