I wouldnt touch a south african chariot with a barge pole ecpecially with a tech II kit, they have minimal rust protection, all the ones ive seen are as rotten as a carrot everywhere.

The Sport was a UK only model.

However you can get a car with the exact same spec if all the right options were ticked when new.

the sport was probably a "marketing" thing for us British :D

If its a proper south african sport as such, its nothing like our UK sports.

Try a 2.7 alpina engine, 5 stud e30 m3 suspension and ali wings, doors and bonnet.

A rare and highly desirable E30.

Although they did another sport version evo 1, which was more inline with ours UK cars. The above known as the "evo 2" was to go racing in SA series.

I think the south African version of the UK Sport was the 325iS. I think the late version had a 2.7 M20, some ally panels (front wings from memory) and M3 5 stud suspension and brakes. Obviously built in SA, so as above no rust protection, so rot will be an issue if its been in the UK for any length of time.
Might be worth a punt if its a genuine 325iS and got all the right bits, but it could well be just an imported 325i with an mtech kit.

Can't see it been the 2.7 alpina engine as if you had that you would be putting that in the ad to try and sell it.

If it is i will be snapping that up lol

Also, how many times have i said this before.

The 325i Sport was not a uk only model!

taken from another forum,

the Evo 1 had ally bonnet, fenders, doors and boot lid. Evo 2 had only the ally bonnet (the bonnet had a brace on the inside centre not visible on the steel one) and boot lid. In the last production run this was also dropped to steel components. I reckon the ally parts were saved for Group N racing. Also, the agents had problems when the road cars came in for service, the mechanics would not realise they working against ally fenders and often dented them, which means dealerships had to replace them at their cost.
There were no complete ally bodies. Too expensive to manufacture for only +_ 500 homologation models. BTW, the ally parts are much lighter than steel. I once compared the weights of an ally and a steel fender and there was most definitely a significant difference in weight. The extra power on the evo 2 came from the head more skimmed, 535i afm & throttle intake butterfly, larger inlet valves, diff ratio changed (3.91:1), exhaust x-pipe/balancing pipe and remapped ecu. BMW never designated "evo 1" or"evo 2". They left the factory as "325iS" and "325iS Evo HP" HP for high perfomance. Check body ID plate on "Evo2". These cars were available in SA only. Back in the old days BMW SA could not import the E30 M3 because of sanctions, so they decided to make their own equivalent. Most engine components (pistons, conrods, crank) came from Alpina (Alpina B3 2.7) and not from the 525e (etta) as commonly believed. Hence the Alpina stickers on the AFM and ECU. Suspension (ally control arms),

Go to www.e30clubsa.co.za to ask all your questions.

Nothing wrong with SA built models except as noted that rust proofing can be an issue...here in SA we have to be wary of any car that has spent a few years at the coast.
Gumtree in SA is full of lots of scams so be very wary of buying anything there....ask for advice at the SA forum I mentioned above.
BMW South Africa has been making excellent cars for SA and the export market for many years and have won many awards for their quality so as long as you are aware of rust issues you can get nice vehicles from here.
The prices of E30s here in SA are rediculously high though  ....lots of people here actually find good bargains in the UK to bring out here though once again we have to be careful of rust as the car may have been exposed to snow and salt in its lifetime. :?
