Hi all, seems to be a leak in the cab around the front windows. I think the seals have given up or something similar? Any idea what can be done and where to source the correct bits?
Thanks.
Thanks.

is it from the top front corners of the windows?
i have it on the driver side, it is probably the robber seal that attached to convertable roof in front, but I could not stop it, whenever it's hard rain I get drops falling on me.
I asked for a new seal price from dealer and it was £140

Yes I think that's probably what I need - however that is quite expensive and I think the passenger side needs replacing too. Did you get that quote from BMW themselves bud?

it is expensive, but it is one piece of rubber, it goes above side windows and windscreen, you can open the hood and check it. That rubber does not look that bad on my car, it shows a little bit of wear in the corners but nothing major, but it still leaks, I tried to take it off and put it back, but it did not really help. The other thing I want to do is to cover the roof with some sort of waterproof stuff, I think as it is old it soaks water in and lets it go through.

I use Scotchguard - unsure what is better but I think it's all the same. And I will look into seal...

Also you could try a product called Fabsil, usually used for tents etc, but works a treat.

I had the same problem with my cab, leaking from both top front corners, when It rained hard I got drops on me, about a drop every 5 seconds.!
I noticed how much water the roof actually soaked in, so I cleaned it good, waited for it to dry then scotchgarded it a couple of times. The roof now repels water instead of soaking it in.
Dry as a bone, even when it rains really heavy. Didn't have to change any seals.!

Try autoglym cabriolet fabric hood cleaner/protector as well. Also if it's leaking near the top of the window corners - spread some silicone grease around.

Hi all i replace soft tops for a living and can tell you that most cabs leak from the front corners of the frame where it meets the windscreen.
I have seen what Renovo does to soft tops and highly recommend that you do not use this product, it ruins roofs!! The Autoglym products are alot better. The best way to seal up the front corners is Vaseline. Unlatch your roof and push it up 5 inches off the windscreen. Smear the Vaseline across the corners of the windscreen rubber seal horizontally and vertically (put loads on it won't damage your hood or seals). Then latch the roof up in doing so it will compress the Vaseline into and recesses you may have thus stopping the leaks.
Another point to mention is check your electric window alignment. This can be done by jamming a piece of paper between the side glass and the roof. If the paper slides out effortlessly then you have a gap. If you pull at the paper and its tight then obviously this is a good seal.
Any probs give me a pm...

Don't use anything that's not spefically designed for cabby canvas roofs. I know a man who used a tent waterproofer on his cabby roof and it now is covered in white streaks and is aesthetically ruined.Gavla wrote:Also you could try a product called Fabsil, usually used for tents etc, but works a treat.
It's too expensive a part to mess about with cheap stuff.

Topblag, I would normally agree with you, however I think it was off this forum that I saw the advice to use Fabsil and having used it a number of times now I can honestly say it is a fantastic product and does not leave streaks or any residue of any kind. It simply soaks into the canvas and makes it as water tight as a ducks bottom. Fabsil is also not cheap and is recommended for waterproofing in general not just for tents.
