I found myself looking lustfully at E36 318is's this evening on auto trader... I think I may be considering buying one. They are pretty cheap, was looking at a few around £800 that appeared half decent.

Never owned a dirty six before but fancied a change from 10 years or so of driving E30's...

My wife had the last of the E36 318is. It was a good motor, handled well, good steering, brakes were ok and was night and day against my 2002 325ci Sport.

They're still wrong though..... winkeye

my mate brought one a couple years ago for £400 with 200k on the clock
went well and looked tidy, sold it for the same price a year later, only problem i found when i drove it was the brakes, only worked for 2 roundabouts, and it werent great on fuel but i guess thats my driving!

i was considering one as a daily but fortunately an E34 came up at the right price instead. is the build quality on e36's as disappointing as some say?

I've owned 2 e30's and 2 e36's can't say I noticed any big difference in build quality if your happy with the quality of an e30 you'll be happy with an e36

the really early ones were supposed to be pretty shoddy, but my two, both 1996 n-reg have been superb.

i really couldnt recommend them highly enough as a cheap to run, yet nice to drive everyday runabout.
cheers,

I like E36's. I'll be buying a Touring for a daily when I find the right one.

Im driving an e36 as a daily after 5-6 years of e30 and its better than in most aspects. Never liked the look of them and still don't but they feel very modern to drive daily. The e30 has more character and put a smile on your face as you walk towards it and always look back when parked up. With the e36 i lock it and just go indoors lol.

I agree the E30 has more character, my E36 Touring makes me look back and smile though.. Good looking understated chariots.

this is like the dirty little corner of an alcoholics anonymous meeting where a couple of old farts are sitting in the corner asking each other if the gin they had last night was against the rules:)

I just bought one http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=215357

been pressed straight into daily service (50miles a day). Needs some tlc but it's engaging/interesting enough to drive. Enjoying how much lighter it feels to the e36 323i sport touring I had as well.

Some interesting responses and nothing put me off the idea yet.

I'd need to sell the E30 to buy 1 now, but I have got some plans for this motor especially if I get another daily and can take it off the road for a while. I'll start saving my pennies then.

Please insert all your general E36 buying tips below.... winkeye

if you've ever had or driven a J plate e36 they're not as good as the later e36's.

E36's love an interior rattle
