Well the intercooler should be here tomorrow,
so if i get the time, i'll get it on there,

iv started pulling bits off the car ready for the M50 to go in,

I think I could do this blindfolded the amount of times iv had this engine in and out of the bay

also changed the control arms, drop links, Powerflex eccentric bushes and some new wheels with super sticky ADo48's wrapped round them

the 2.5 is in the kitchen at the mo :D getting a good seeing to
(dont think the missus is too happy like)

But I dont know if this is a problem or not.....

the bore/chamber size on the 2.5 block is 84mm but..
the MLS gasket iv got is 85mm

is this a problem does anyone know?
or are all the head gaskets 1mm over??

I think it'll have to be much lower than the 2:93

the 2:93 coupled with the 328i box will only give a top end of 158,

and the 2:65 will give a top end of 175

Thats going off the info given in this link...

http://www.endtuning.com/gearratios.html
tyre size 225-40-17
(link stolen from jimbob ;)

dont know how accurate this thing is,

but i thought i would of seen more top end than 175 with the 2:65 diff fitted

:?
I have a 2.8 box and 2.9 lsd (2.8 24v) and I managed a gps indicated 143mph on the autobahn en route to the nurburgring (in the rain with one headlight !) before giving up. I was also 3 up and had the luggage of 3 and various tools/spares !. Not bad I guess.

It had revs left on the tach but it was running out of ponies to get much more mph. Its a shame, I never really got a chance to try again in better conditions.

I am running 215/40/17 btw.

I expect that you would be wise to use the e36 diff cover as shown earlier in the thread.

Its strange because I am just looking for info on such a thing for an S50 rally car I am building.

So does anybody know if the E36 cover just bolts to the e30 diff !?

I'v been looking for one of those diff covers for ages mate, and one has just come up so i'm a happy bunny :D

and yeah it just bolts straight on to the diff, but as seen earlier in the thread,
the mounting frame needs modified, to accept the Twin eared backing plate,

I take it all back................

I had a bit of trouble getting the backing plate to fit, simply because of the trigger wheel, I ended up having to strip the diff down and changing the trigger wheel it's self.....

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=216218

not a hard job, I just wasnt aware I had to do it,

but all is good, and fingers crossed, the engine, box and diff will be in the car this week

Thought it was about time I updated this.........

The build has had its ups and downs, but now im on the home stretch,
Since I updated this the last time,

The intercooler has been test fitted
Image

and fitted
Image
It sits perfectly, just right for the boost pipes to be routed under the lights :)

And I thought while the car was getting a seeing to, I would get the covers powdercoated,
Image
Not sure what to do with the top cover yet, I was thinking of buffing the lettering to a nice shine..?

and speaking if shiny parts what an awesome piece of kit this is..
Image
Shame it's not going to be seen, it'll be hidden away under the manifold :(

After a bit of test fiddling, we decided on the best place for the turbo to live,
And after a bit of jiggling around it found its rightful home

Image

Once I had the turbo in just the right place, it was on to the manifold,
I had the flanges laser cut out of 10mm 304 stainless steel,
and the rest of the pipework is all 2" 316 grade stainless,

We got the rear 3pipes lined up quite easily

Image

Then we just took it from there, test fit, tac on, cut it here and there, tac it back on, take off, cut again, tac back up :/ you get the picture, it wasnt easy, infact, this is one of the most complicated systems we have ever done,
But we stuck with it and an pleased we did, because it's ended up like this...

Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image
Image

So in the next couple of days, I'll knock up a downpipe then start on the boost pipes,
And after that, there's not much more to do really, need to buy some injectors, fuel pump some mashoove fuel lines, and just wait for the loom to come back from gunni who is splicing the vems into it, so it's pnp winkeye

Are the runners "2 out of the head?

Looks to me that manifold is going to do very well.

Cheers dude, I think we have got it to "go with the flow" it took some doing, and it's defiantly not a job for the faint hearted.

I had to get the laser cutters to open up the port on the flanges when they were cut, so we could get the 2" pipe to sit inside the flange,
Dont worry, all the welding on the inside of the flange, to the pipe, has a lovely angle to it :D

P.s how's the vems coming on :)

51mm exhaust runner pipe is very excessive FYI.

Are you planning on 1000hp?

No, just 500 :D

if I used anything smaller, the manifold would of needed braced in a lot of places due to the weight of the thing as you know,
So instead of using a smaller pipe or a lower grade only for it to crack/break etc and have to do it all again, just wasnt an option for me.
Better off making 1 that is beefy, and going to last, because once it's on.......
I dont see it coming off for any reason

Hi mate,

What suspension bits have you opted for?

Is the E36 rear cover the only reinforcement you are going for?

Im using GAZ top adjustable on the front, front alloy top mounts with 5 degrees of + camber,
GAZ adjustable on the rear, with rose jointed top mounts, and lowered 55 front 40 rear on spax springs,

And on the diff, iv knocked up a couple of brackets, to hold it nice and tight on both sides.

Well,
It looks like this project has come to an abrupt end!

I sent the vems and my converted engine loom down to gunni a month a go so they could be spliced together,
I got an email from gunni lastnight saying he hasn't got the vems or the loom, and I should contact the courier company. :x
Iv been on to the delivery company and they say it's been delivered! Gunni says otherwise,
Im so f u c k I n g p I s s e d off its unreal, I was nearly sick lastnight and I was shaking with just pure
f u c k I n g RAGE!

Im now out of pocket by £920 and there's not a thing I can do about it!!!

Absolutely horrible to hear this mate!

Surely the delivery company will have proof for it being signed for if Gunni had signed for it? Stick with it, I'm sure it can be resolved. Maybe contact a lawyer? Was the package insured?

Feel sick for you too bud, was watching this with great anticipation as it's a very similar formula to what I'm going for.

I spoke to the courier earlier, and there adamant the parcel was delivered on time and they know this because 2 other parcels were signed for at the same time, same place,

I also spoke the the guy down D I racing and he's going to rip the place apart to see if it's just lying about somewhere......

Fookin hope so :(

WTF

Have you spoken to the person that actually delivered the parcel Craig? If not you need to, you need to have them describe the parcel to you and the person that signed for it, hearing it from a third party is not good enough you need to speak to the van driver

You right there Dan but, here it comes....
We can't give out that information due to the data protection act :x
I feel like iv had my pants pulled down and im getting royally shafted!

City link arnt going to pay any insurance because in their eyes and the data they have, it's been delivered.
They guys at D I RACING are sticking to their guns and are saying city link are lying.

So what do I do next, use my sensible side of my brain and go to the police?

I seriously doubt D I Racing (assuming that is Gunni/who he works for) would steal this.

Can they not provide the paperwork to show who signed for it?
