HI FOUND THIS ON http://www.e30club.com

Image

BMW E30 333i

This model used the 3210 cc engine found in 733i or in the 533i of those times. Unless you live in South Africa, it’s unlikely you will ever come across one of these cars, because they were made by the South African Motorsport division. They had massive success in saloon car racing over there, mostly because of the specifications of the engine. The 3.3 liter straight six put out 197 hp at 5500 rpm, and a massive torque figure, of 285 Nm. With the contribution of the 5 speed manual gearbox, this car was very fast, reaching speeds of to 230 km/h, and a 0-100 km/h time of just over seven seconds. The engine could be easily tuned, and even more power could be squeezed out of it. It was produced between 1985 until 1987, and only 204 of these cars ever rolled out of the production line.

DOES THIS MEAN THAT YOU CAN DROP A 733i or 533i IN AND THE ENGINE MOUNTS LINE UP WITH THE ORIGINAL ONES OR HAVE THESE BEEN MODIFIED WHEN THEY WERE FACTORY BUILT IN AFRICA?

If your intersted in the rare models they produced see this link

http://www.e30club.com/bmw-e30-rare-models-244.html

No doubt most of you e30 anoraks will already know this.lol :D

Just saw it and curious.

Thanks

Matt

It's got its own Wiki page:

http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/index.php/333i

But it's missing some key technical data. And the one in that pic belongs to a Zoner, IIRC.

Topless has one but it's in a pretty sorry state waiting on a rebuild, only just saved it from certain doom!

If someone can supply correct info, I'll happily update the page. I'm as intrigued about these rare beasts as everyone else.

Blanking plates where the bumper bolts on. Seems they've been painted to match the valence.

Blanking plates are square, not rectangular. Those marks are clearly white insulating tape holding the blanking plates in place !

No one answered the question regarding will one of these 533i or 733i engines fit into a standard e30 ie 320i, are the engine mounts in same places?

If so what would you need engine, gearbox, ecu and wiring loom?

Just interested and basically asking can this be carried out as a conversion and if so on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the hardest) how easy/hard is it to do?

Cheers :)

It's basically an M30 engine transplant, but you'll need to make your own engine mounts, as the early M30 engines had different mounting points, so the ones Leeparkes supplies are for the later M30 E34 engines.
Scale of 1-10, i would say abput a 6.

If you're going to the effort of fitting an M30, you may as well go for the B35 version.

You'd be better of fitting a 3.5 M30. Its been done to death. Loads on here have done it. There has been loads of info and tech help written in engine swap's.

They are simple, cheap, reliable and common conversion. They have their lovers and haters (most haters are on a wind-up).
They are getting harder to find, less likley to make factory power and thursty. Plus VERY VERY heavy winkeye

that's how they rolled, amazingly though 2 years previous Hartge managed them both on the H35 !!

I won't be using either ! the Aircon is very complex and will no doubt cost ££££ to get right , and PAS is for wimps :D
When Alpina developed the first M30 powered E30, The B6 2.8 there was no A/C option available as the engine was mounted to far forward which meant the coolant rad was custom and in the front panel.

The B6 3.5 that replaced it also used the same mounts, inlet and rad as did the 333i.

Because SA is a bit hot, the availability of A/C was a bit of a must hence that mutant system that was available on the 333i which will be some home brew SA thing.

When Alpina revised the B6 3.5 in 1987 for the introduction of the facelift cars, the whole set up was revised so that the engine was mounted further back so the use of an E28 rad meant an A/C condenser was possible there for it being available on facelift B6 3.5's and B6S's.

the H35 used the E28 rad,
and their custom mounts are totally different to any i have seen they bolt up onto an extra plate that's welded onto the subframe,

of course in true Hartge fashion, the Bulkhead was "massaged" !! winkeye
