As with every e30 ive ever seen, the chrome surrounds on the front and rear windscreens on my car are cream crackered. Is it possible to easily change these over, or is it a better idea to just paint them black? Ive never really looked at them in detail, just wondering. Thanks, Theo.

Do you mean the chrome surrounds on the front and rear side screens?
Better to paint them black I think, a lot less hassle plus would give you a more modern look too, unless you really want the old skool chrome look

I think he maens the chrom plasticy thingy insert in to the rubber that holdds the glass in. Paint it black IMO, changin them is a bugger if you have the right tool and almost impossible otherwise.

They *are* changeble (with a small screwdriver & a lot of patience!), & you'll get better results swapping to black ones rather than trying to paint em... I just can't see how you'd get a decent & durable finish on them with paint.
Black ones look better IMHO even on a chrome bumpered car, especially as they're always white rather than chrome!

They are not that deer, but they ARE a bitch to fit if you dont have the correct tool to fit them, if you try and bodge it, it can cause the chrome to crack/split under the laquer coating.......fowler wrote:F**k me the piece you are after is only 50 odd quid and for god sake keep the crome if its a pre--facelift

I rekon it would be fairly easy to paint them, they are no longer chrome, just faded cream/brown and shite, with a fairly abrasive surface, bit of spray paint - jobs a good'un. I dont really want to replace it with chrome as i spent ages dechroming the car, only the bumpers left now which should be taken car of with an mtec kit.

Get some black nail varnish mate and paint them. Spraying sounds a bit of a hassle, and you won't notice the brush painted finish, should be quite hard wearing too.

Trust me you never have to look far for them, well not in Newcastle.
Hmmmm why do you never see any goths who are 30 or older I wonder. How can goth birds actually think they look fit?

Haha - i know, thats why i take it upon myself to inform them that they sadly dont conform to any notion, no matter how abstract, of being attractive. How can goth birds actually think they look fit?

That sounds like a real bodge job to me?? I would have said that enough nail varnish to cover all the chrome trim would cost a lot more than a tin of hamerite, which lets face it is still a bad idea! But at least it wont be transparent like the nail varnish.Widge wrote:Get some black nail varnish mate and paint them. I would have thought it would be much better to remove the trim and spray it black or just replace it with new black trim.

Yeah.
We aren't actually talking about the chrome trim around the car, just the windscreen insert.

so you guys then think that painting the cream (previously chrome) trim around the windscreens in black is a no no ??? I myself thought it wouldn't look bad and was going to do it in mine...

TBH what have you got to loose? It looks crap cream, so paint it black and if you don't like it get a black one and go through the switching process. I think it will look ok painted black if you do it carefully.
