its typical pointless vandalism dressed up as entertainment. yes worse happens in scrap yards but thats not entertainment. It's not funny and you can bet they are deliberately chosen as someone dislikes e30's. They are morons and so are the people that watch it.

All these people that say how much they hate Clarkson et al or the program in general, turn the bloody channel over and stop moaning!!!!!!!!

They picked a common car from the same era as the Saab for a comparison, both cars were complete turds so no loss to the world! To most folk out there these cars don't even warrant a second glance, i don't know why E30 owners get so jumped up about this kind of thing!

I've always got the impression they quite like the E30, they never slated them when they had the cab feature (just the previous owners and mods) and they all compliment the M3.

Has everyone considered why they chose an E30 to compare ? They were strong, fast and expensive in their day.

If they had compared against a ford escort, we'd have all said that it wasn't a valid comparison.

I'm with most folk here, who cares about a rusty 1987 more door getting ruined.

There seemed no outcry when Stevie's car was wrecked by willing zoners so why moan about a tv series doing the same but to demostrate how safe another car was. Lest we forget a SAAB got (slightly) wrecked also.

I enjoy Top Gear and when i do watch it it's purley for entertainment reasons and nowt else!

I just hope the high compression M20B25 that would be in a C-reg 325i found a good home!

It wasn't really the roof it showed the weak points in though was it? It showed how weak the pillars are, and the pillars are very important in an accident!

And, the pillars on an E30 are very weak!

No, you are right, we will never know.

But I do know how weak an E30 is though... I've dealt with a number of E30's in post accident condition.

Couldn't agree more, 1 reasonable bloke dominated by 2 stuck up idiots who think entertainment is dropping a caravan from a crane to see if it breaks. If I had my way they would have to live in that caravan with a couple of "black Mamba's" for company. As for the midget, its obvious who bends over for his public school chum by the way he grovels to the lanky big headed pratt.

thing is i used to love it. but its the scripting that mates it soo cringeworthy. like it hurts to watch ( dont say change the channel i cant the people at work watch it ) the guys are all cool enough left to their own devices but the programme is soo overly scripted and things set up IE. torching someone elses caravan its hard to watch

people keep forgetting the point of the piece, to show how strong the saab was, NOT to show how weak an e30s are. i'm sure pretty much the same thing would happen with any similar car from the era.

what do you expect them to do, turn a quick 60 second piece into a 20 minute detailed comparison of every mid size car built in the mid 80s just to make sure they didnt offend one particular enthusiasts club?
cheers,

you think?

nearly all modern cars have pillars way thicker than anything that was around in the 80s.

my mums got a fiat punto and the main a-pillars are as thick as 4 e30 a-pillars bundled together would be.

you pay for it with bigger massively worse visibility though which starts the whole accident safety vs not having the accident in the first place arguement...

i'd put money on every new car on sale in the uk would fair far betting in an 8ft drop test than an e30!

but then the weight of the e30 diff is more than a Punto engine !
coupled with an M20 the roof didn't stand a chance !! :D
